Nature & Portrait Photography
An Online Course
Take richer and more dynamic nature and
portrait photographs by learning how to
make changes to your shooting habits. Class
emphasizes composition and lighting and
does not go into technical camera settings
or similar. Over a two month period, receive
two photography assignments that can be
fulfilled with any kind of camera: DSLR,
point & shoot, or even a smartphone. At
the start of class, you’ll receive a link to
online videos that explain the class and
assignments. Once you submit your photo
assignments, the instructor will upload a
personalized critique video just for you with
his comments on selected photos from
each assignment. You must have basic
computer skills, including an email address
and access to the Internet, to participate
successfully. Class must be completed
within two months of starting date.
John

Basic Drawing
Drawing as Seeing
To draw well, you
have to see well.
This drawing class
helps students
learn to really SEE
and render objects
as they appear,
rather than drawing from memory how we
believe they “should” look! Line, contour
and gesture drawing techniques will be
introduced, as well as negative space
observation and drawing. We will also learn
how to draw objects and spaces in three-
dimension for realistic representation on
a flat sheet of paper. This drawing class is
designed for beginners but more advanced
students can also join to hone their skills.

Beginning Colored Pencil
Drawing Techniques
Bust out in a riot of color in this beginning
level drawing class. Drawing and shading
with colored pencils is not hard once you
learn some basic color theory and learn
how to “see” the rainbow of colors that can
be used to describe something as simple
as a blueberry or apple. Class will focus on
learning and implementing three colored
pencil techniques: layering, underpainting,
and burnishing. Practice each technique
and then choose a colorful photograph
to create a more elaborate drawing from.
Deb Rohr
is a lifelong artist with a long
background in drawing and painting though
she made a living as a motor sport and fine
art/portrait photographer for more than
10 years. Work from a selection of colorful
photographic images (you choose what
appeals to you), and leave with the skills to
expand into your other drawing projects.
