Demand Letter Basics
Write Like an Attorney & Be Heard
If you’ve been wronged by a company,
employer, or individual, you don’t always
need an attorney to get the remedy you
deserve. Learn to write a “demand letter,”
a document used by attorneys that lays
out your complaint in a clear and concise
way that implicitly requires a response
from the recipient. The letter format is
not hard to learn, but can be extremely
effective. And in the event that you do not
get the response you hope for, you’ll likely
save hundreds of dollars in legal fees by
having the information already organized to
present to a lawyer. With over 32 years of
experience as a trial attorney and national
lecturer,
Gregory Cairns, Esq.
has refined
the process of writing effective demand
letters. Mr. Cairns specializes in Colorado
workers’ compensation cases and is the
founder and principal instructor for the
Center for Workers’ Compensation Training.
He is a witty, dynamic speaker who makes
a potentially “dry” subject accessible and
understandable for all.

Plotting a Novel, Memoir, or
Screenplay
The Structure That Holds It All
Together
Mythic structure can be found in almost
every myth worldwide from ancient times
to modern-day blockbusters, like Star Wars,
Harry Potter, and Avatar. This structure
creates compelling stories and provides
organization, giving you an essential tool to
complete a novel, memoir, or screenplay.
Students will learn about the 12 stages of
the hero’s journey and use those 12 stages
to plot the main character’s journey. During
class students will work with their own story
ideas and turn them into functional outlines.
Evon Davis
has successfully published a
number of books, including
Pandora’s Box
,
a modern-day version of the myth. Optional

Write a Blockbuster!
Secrets to Successful Modern Fic-
tion, Memoir, & Screenplay
There are elements in common to all
blockbusters, regardless of genre, that
can be identified and mimicked. This class
dissects modern bestsellers like Eat, Pray,
Love, The Hunger Games series, or Wild, to
discover the repeatable elements that all
successful manuscripts have in common.
Once you know the elements of a successful
story, you can weave them into your work
from the very beginning. In class, learn how
to analyze successful movies and books
on your own, and practice incorporating
key elements into opening, hooks, and
scenes. The focus is on concrete, descriptive
language, action, character motivation,
emotion, conflict and how use them to
maximum effect. Leave with some new
writing skills and the knowledge of how to
model your work after that of authors who
have been extremely successful.
