and grow. This session will help you select
a type of plan that your organization can

(strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats) analysis, strategies to position their
organization for long-term success, and
techniques to ensure their strategic plan
will stay activated.

help you research and write the business
plan that you will need to lead you toward

research you should do, the things that
should be included in the plan, and the
steps that are used to create a usable and
feasible business plan.

Bureau of Labor statistics, there are nearly
62 million volunteers in America. The
Independent Sector values each volunteer
hour given at more than $20 an hour. If
you are you asking, “What can I do to use
volunteers more effectively?” and, “What
can I do to make the experience for my
volunteers stand out?” then this session is
for you. Discover concrete and easy steps
that you can implement right away to build
numbers and commitment among your
volunteer pool, whether your organization
is just starting out or you already have
a strong team of volunteers. As a staff
person, consultant, trainer and volunteer
herself,

fundraisers, special event coordinators,
and general program staff. She is executive
director of Computer C.O.R.E., which offers
intensive training in basic computer skills
to low-income adults. Lynn oversees a staff
of seven and more than 185 volunteers who
give approximately 12,000 hours annually.

Statements
Whether you work for a nonprofit, sit
on a board, or are thinking of starting
a nonprofit, you need to know how to
understand a financial statement and use
it to guide the organization’s decision-
making. It’s also important to know what
kinds of records need to be kept, what
an audit is and whether you need one,
and when and what you must file with
the IRS and state department of revenue.
Nikki Riedt
works with the Public Interest
Network and travels the country consulting
with member organizations about their
financial statements and how to use them
appropriately. She’ll translate the terms,
explain the concepts, and give you the
basics to be a responsible member of your
nonprofit.

This certificate establishes a foundation for those wanting to work in the nonprofit
sector. You will learn about starting a nonprofit, strategic planning, finances, grant
writing, and resources. To earn the certificate, students must complete nine classes: six
