Mindfulness 101
Skills for Living in Awareness
Mindfulness
is the art of
being fully
present for
ourselves and
others so that
we can fully
embrace our
lives. Through
its practice we
become less
driven and more centered. Drawing on the
wisdom of an ancient tradition, its help-
ful effects have been validated by modern
neuroscience. Mindfulness provides tools to
reduce stress, manage emotions, increase
focus, and improve overall health. The
ultimate benefit is that you move through
suffering to joy and touch life more deeply
and authentically. With an emphasis on ex-
periential exercises, discussion, and home
practice, students will learn mindfulness
practices and be able to apply these to their
daily lives.
Matt Sherman
is a longtime
student of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and
has facilitated mindfulness groups for 13
years and currently practices mindfulness
in his workplace as the owner of a residen-
tial cleaning service in Denver.
