plugging in their earbuds or headphones. The elliptical and recumbent
bikes are not powered by electricity; users need to be moving or
peddling on the machines in order to generate the power to listen to
the televisions.
Residents can bring their own earbuds or headset or purchase them
from the Activities Department for $5 each. Any standard earbud or
headphone will work with the fitness equipment audio system.
The “no volume” rule is posted in the Fitness Center next to each of
the TVs. Two warning letters were sent to residents last month for
turning the volume up on TVs. A second offense could result in the
loss of Fitness Center use for 30 days. We ask that you abide by the
rules, or as Ken said, “We
are hoping everyone will
play nice.”
Fitness Center TV Audio Use
A variety of solutions have been considered over the past year to
address conflicts in the Fitness Center concerning the use of the
television audio. On July 11 a meeting was held in the Fitness Center
to discuss a new “no volume” rule and audio equipment recently
installed on the fitness machines.
Windsor Gardens service provider Ken Greenberg from Commercial
Fitness Solutions addressed those in attendance and explained the
reasoning behind the “no volume” rule. Ken noted, “External audio
can create havoc in the room.” TVs that are too loud or competing
sets can cause confusion and distraction, creating an unpleasant,
sometimes even hostile, workout environment. Activities Director
Cynthia Courtney added,
“We’ve had people bullying
others, shouting at each
other” about the TV volume.
Demonstrating the new audio
equipment, Ken pointed out
the audio receivers that have
been installed on most of the
first row of fitness machines,
which allow for TV listening
with earbuds or headphones.
Machines such as the
treadmills that are powered
by electricity will allow users
to listen to the nearest TV by
July 11 meeting with
Fitness Center users to
discuss the "no volume"
rule and the use of new
audio equipment for
television listening.

It has been a year since Windsor Gardens began using the Pilera
communication system. We’ve had a good response from resident
and non-resident owners regarding notifications via Pilera, and we
have found it to be a quick and efficient way to reach many people.
We continue working on next steps to improve and expand Pilera
communications. Pilera is now being used for water shut-offs in
the buildings. We are saving trees, no longer posting notices in the
buildings. Sometime in the future we hope to have the ability to notify
residents when work orders have been received and updates on
progress and completion.
Residents sometimes have trouble understanding the voice mail
messages if they have chosen the phone as their Pilera contact
method. Email is the preferred method. Please remember, if your
email address changes, the office needs to be notified.
