Beginning Mosaics
The art of mosaics goes back thousands
of years, but remains one of the most
interesting and pleasing forms.
Katherine
Keck
took her first mosaic class here at CFU
about 15 years ago and has been developing
her skills ever since. In this introductory
course you will complete a simple project.
Start by learning to cut, arrange and
apply tiles. In the second session, work on
grouting. And in the final session, seal and
polish your piece. Leave with the knowledge
to work on new projects on your own.
Students must bring a hammer and rubber
kitchen gloves to class. Bring protective
eyewear, if you have it, or be prepared
for the optional materials fee to purchase
them from the instructor. The instructor will
provide other tools for participants to share
and the materials for the projects made in
class. Discover why Katherine finds mosaics
to be her creative outlet of choice!

Some Like It Hot!
Metal Artistry in One Day
Metal is the new hot medium–literally!
Here’s your chance to feel the power of
cutting into hard steel to create beautiful
works of metal art. In this hands-on class
you will work with two types of cutting
processes, an oxy/acetylene torch and a
plasma cutter, and make two very different
pieces of metal art without the use of
welding. Finish your pieces using a blasting
cabinet, grinding and polishing, and have
the option of coloring using an acetylene
torch.
Cathy Hiatt
and
Diane Larson
are
working metal artists with 20 years of
experience between them. They show their
work at juried art shows in Colorado and
surrounding states and display and sell
through local galleries and co-ops. They also
create unique metal signage for businesses.
Safety is a priority in this class as students
will work with torches and sharp-edged
metal.
