NEW! Comic Books Aren’t
Just for Kids
Getting Started in
Comics & Graphic
Novels
Comic books are more
popular than ever,
both as a storytelling
medium as well as a starting point for
launching larger multimedia properties.
Get an overview of the process of creating
a comic book, from concept to production
and distribution. Explore where ideas come
from, what sells, what a script looks like,
and how you can find the collaborators
you’ll need. Get ideas about directions
you might go with your comic book from
publishing to expanding it into a full
graphic novel to developing it for other
media. Whether you are an artist who wants
to venture into a new medium or are a
storyteller with ideas that you think would
work as a comic or graphic novel, this class
will get you going. Collaboration within the
class is encouraged.
Alex Delia
is a local
comic book creator and publisher currently

publishing process. He is a film school

Your Life in Print
Memoirs, Personal Essays, & Auto-
biographical Fiction
You have a story to tell and probably at
least one book in you. Memoir writing is a
valuable tool for understanding the meaning
of your life, processing your experiences,
and learning all that can be learned from
them. It’s a way of turning profound
moments into art and giving others the
chance to learn and be moved by your life
story. Learn what a memoir is and how
to focus the themes and time—frames of
your life in order to write a memoir. Learn
the difference between writing a summary
and describing a scene and how you can
mix the two. Through discussion, reviewing
sample memoir pieces, and in-class writing
exercises, novelist and writing teacher
Evon
Davis
will get you telling the story of your
life.

Creative Writing
Explore the craft of creative writing with
this taster class covering the basic tools
writers need to transform their ideas from
concept to the page. This one-session class
is ideal for new writers wanting an overview
of topics important to creative writing
and for intermediate writers looking for a
condensed refresher. The class incorporates

to apply concepts. Topics include a basic
introduction to story and plot, narration
and point of view, as well as setting and

will not only be able to apply these basic
concepts to their writing, but also have
the resources and the direction for further
study either independently or in a formal
setting.

Beginning Creative Writing

process that takes equal parts dedication
and liberation. Through this course,
students will develop an original piece
of creative writing with guidance from
peers and instruction that focuses on
creating compelling characters, settings,
conflict, and an authentic narrative voice.
Course sessions will consist of lectures,
discussions, workshops, and writing
exercises. Instructor
Eric Erickson
earned
an MA in English and Creative writing and
has published fiction in several literary
journals. He is currently nearing the
completion of his first novel.
