ne of the saddest parts of growing older, is
the loss of a spouse or a late in life divorce.
Many times people are forced to live their
golden years without their life partner.
Being alone can cause depression, and
depression can cause a variety of health issues. But, there
is no reason for seniors to go on alone when they have lost
their spouse. Perhaps marriage is not in your plans, but
what about dating? Does the idea of senior dating make
you a little nervous? That's a natural feeling for adults of
any age, especially if you're out of practice.
Whether you’re 16 or 65, the best way to enjoy a first
date is to keep an open mind, focus on the things you have
in common, and make your primary goal to simply have a
good time.
Valentine’s Day is commonly known as a day for love
and friendship. Why not start a new friendship by going
on a friendly date? The old rules of “The guy should ask the
girl”, or “The guy should always pay for the date” does not
apply in this case. But, it’s wise to set up the rules prior to
the outing. Some men just feel uncomfortable let-
ting a woman pay her way, but keeping in mind,
retired seniors sometimes live on a
tight budget, it’s a reasonable
solution. But, how can you find
someone to ask for a date? There are
lots of ways, and just as many
ways to enjoy time together.
To help you on your way,
here are 10 great senior
dating ideas that are perfect
for older adults:
• Get Up and Dance. Whether
you’re the belle of the ball or
have two left feet, dancing is a
great way to get close, have
fun, and check for chemistry. Many senior
centers, ballrooms and other dance facilities spon-
sor group lessons before the real dancing begins to
help people who are rusty get back in the swing of things or
learn a few new steps. Whether you have a date or not,
attending these events is a great way to meet new people.
• Spread a Picnic Blanket. Nothing is more romantic than a
picnic in a beautiful spot. Make it even more special by
shopping together to choose the food and wine that will fill your
basket. It’s a great opportunity to share some of your favorite
things with someone you’re just getting to know.
• What Am I Bid? If you support the same causes, attend a
charity auction. You’ll have a chance to mingle with other
people, which will lessen the first-date pressure, and you’ll be
contributing to something you both care about.
