GE Johnson completes Cherry Creek’s

Moxy hotel, designed by JNS

I

n October, GE Johnson Construction Co. completed the Moxy Hotel in Cherry

Creek North. The 170-room Marriott International Moxy brand hotel is the first

for Denver and is known for its affordable rooms while offering a variety of

amenities such as speedy WiFi and 50-inch TVs.

Spread across 10 levels (two below ground) and 93,000 square feet, the hotel is a

high-end destination for travelers in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The first

floor features an inside/outside bar for the courtyard that has a beautiful and elegant

beer garden-style canopy with fireplaces and grills. The second floor offers both meet-

ing rooms and a fitness room, catering to the various needs of travelers of all sorts. This

$29 million project was completed in 16 months; designed by Johnson Nathan Strohe,

it was developed by Josephine Development Partners.

Dodge Brothers Showroom building

tanford Place III is a 17-story Class A building constructed in 1986. Located

in the heart of the Denver Tech Center, the building is home to many financial

organizations and other professional services companies.

The main lobby is accessible from two entrances, one in which a guard station

had previously been located. Building owner and property manager SteelWave would

eliminate the guard station, but sought a way to tie in the small but high-profile space

with the whole of the lobby remodel.

The first concern was to add a dominant light feature to offset and illuminate the low

ceiling portion of the space. A knife-edge, cove light system, and drywall trim and wrap

gave the space a more inviting and expansive appearance. The design of the lighting

element matched angled, directional installations in other sections of the lobby.

Natural woods for seating and a custom live-edge shelf gave the space a rustic feel

with a progressive design twist. Different carpet styles mimicked the angle of the ceil-

ing element above. The overall muted, neutral palette matched the conservative nature

of the buildings and its primary tenants who use the space for waiting, phone calls and

ad hoc meetings.

lsy Studios, a Denver-based full-service commercial interior design firm, re-

cently completed design work for a 12,130-square-foot workspace for Solidifi,

a Real Matters Company, in the historic Dodge Brothers Showroom building,

commonly referred to as the “Ballet Building,” located on the corner of Lincoln and 13th

streets.

Designed in 1919, the building features perimeter windows that maximize the avail-

ability of natural light within the space. While the exterior of the building has remained

relatively untouched, the interior has undergone a significant remodel in order to meet

the needs of modern businesses like Solidifi.

Elsy transformed Solidifi’s space using dynamic, multileveled lighting to create invit-

ing, functional open spaces as well as more intimate, private areas. The high, open

ceilings showcase the existing historical concrete structure with sleek, low-profile light

fixtures and a clean, unobtrusive approach to running data cable cables, electrical con-

duit and fire systems.

Scheiner Commercial Group Inc. completes

construction on 2 Lululemon stores

cheiner Commercial Group Inc., along with Menemsha Architecture, complet-

ed two projects for Lululemon, simultaneously. Both opened on Nov. 21. One

was a relocation from the sidewalks of Cherry Creek North into the Cherry

Creek Mall. The other was a brand-new location located in Highlands Square.

The newest location in Denver’s Highlands Square has kept the look local. They used

contributions from local Denver artists for the interior and kept the Victorian-style origi-

nal brick façade, re-using existing design elements. The new Cherry Creek Mall location

is 5,500 square feet, much larger than its previous address. The extra space allows

more room for the men’s offerings, which takes up approximately 1,000 sf. It also has

a local feel, featuring local athletes and landscapes with state-of-the-art light boxes.
