“Alzheimer’s research shows
that outdoor space is an ir-
replaceable amenity that im-
proves resident wellness,” said
McClellan. “The integration of
both interior and exterior space
around Memory Café will great-
ly benefit the social, mental and
physical health of our residents.”
In the face of an increasing short-
age of skilled nursing facilities, Col-
orado architects and Alzheimer’s
care providers are quickly modify-
ing the memory care landscape. The
creation of healthy, positive social en-
vironments that incorporates the lo-
cal community is a growing trend that
improves the lives of patients, their
families and their neighborhoods.
“If our No. 1 goal is the health and
well-being of our guests, then we have to
innovate,” concluded McClellan. “But, the
more we learn, the more we adapt and
these social spaces improve the lives of ev-
eryone from our residents to our caregivers
to our neighbors down the street.”
