DECEMBER 2015 \ BUILDING DIALOGUE \

we tore down the existing stage and then
began building a new stage, which will
support more weight and allow for stor-
age underneath. The project also includes
adding bleachers, a concession facility and
a dining pavilion for the park. This renova-
tion will ensure an optimal experience for
fans and performers alike, from Colorado
and from across the world.
In 2013, we completed the first phase of a
massive project at the Matthew and Carolyn
Bucksbaum Campus, part of the Aspen Music
Festival and School. It included construction
of two bridges, three rehearsal halls, teaching
studios, practice rooms and a student center.
This fall, we broke ground on the second phase
of the project, which will be the culmination
of a decade-long vision to expand the Aspen Music Festi-
val’s practice facilities. For the project, Shaw is in the pro-
cess of renovating two historic buildings: the administrative
building, which dates back to the turn of the century, and
the business building, dating to the late 1800s. We recently
moved the historic business building onto a new founda-
tion 100 feet away from where it was previously located. Our
work on the Bucksbaum Campus will continue to transform
the facility into a world-class music center.
It’s not just the mountain towns that are focused on re-
vamping their arts and cultural centers for the benefit of
Colorado residents and visitors. In September, we broke
ground on the new Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative
Art in Denver’s Golden Triangle neighborhood. The new
structure will be two stories (plus a basement) and the proj-
ect will include moving one of the museum’s 100-plus-year-
old buildings from its current site on Pearl Street to 12th and
Bannock streets, where the new museum will be located. It’s
a large undertaking that will honor the museum’s history in
its new location.
Each of these projects adds value to its immediate commu-
nity and those surrounding it, while making Colorado a des-
tination for new residents and culturally minded visitors.
