RNL designs SYKES Regional HQ, consolidates from 2 buildings into 1

O

ccupying two buildings – one in downtown Denver, and one in the Tech Center

– SYKES was finding it difficult to work well while growing so quickly. Consoli-

dating its North American regional headquarters in Denver was the first step in

maximizing efficiency. RNL worked with SYKES to redefine its program standards by

reducing private offices, evaluating workstation sizes, and setting the company up for

better collaboration. SYKES is the innovation leader in customer call care because it has

revolutionized how and when people go to work. One of the many goals SYKES wanted

to achieve in this project was creating a place where people wanted to work. With a

rising competition of remote positions, the company wanted a space that would make

its employees want to come into the office. Pushing daylight into the space with glass

walls and low workstation panels created open, bright workspaces, and a large com-

munal break room drives employees, who are spread across two floors, to one location

to interact and socialize.

Kieding remodels MVG Development in the Ballpark Historic District BOX Studios designs Canadian HQ for Carlson Wagonlit Travel

K

ieding chose subtle upgrades and a smattering of bright colors to comple-

ment the brick and timber offices of Denver-based MVG Development, lo-

cated in the Ballpark Historic District. The 5,000-square-foot owner-occu-

pied structure sits among blocks of original warehouses and small factories recast

as office buildings and mixed-use developments. The remodel was all about using

those existing floor-to-ceiling assets while punching in elements of color and tex-

ture, furnishings, and state-of-the-art office equipment. Glass was used whenever

possible to create privacy for perimeter management offices and conference areas

without obscuring natural light, existing brick and outer windows with views of

Coors Field. The primarily open layout includes workstations and an open-entrance

break area with standing-height counter space and light seating. Splashes of or-

ange, teal and dark blue offset the preserved neutral pallet throughout the space.

C

arlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) has hired BOX Studios to provide ongoing de-

sign services for its offices in Colorado and in global offices worldwide. BOX

Studios has designed more than 50 office spaces for CWT over the last 14

years. As part of each CWT project, we incorporate environmental branding into

each design. The unique challenges of this Toronto project were finding the best

way to manifest the brand while reflecting the unique geography and culture for

this regional office.

Our team combined elements of Toronto’s metropolitan culture and the office’s

location (next to the Toronto Pearson International Airport) within branded elements

that communicate CWT’s identity and culture. Because of a few unique technical el-

ements that helped solve these design challenges, this project won the ASID Crystal

Award and was chosen as the Colorado Facility Awards of Excellence (COFAX) win-

ner for Leading Edge Elements.
