Monument-based Scheiner
Commercial Group Inc. recent-
ly completed construction on
L.L.Bean Inc.’s first retail store in
the state – and in half the time of
a typical L.L.Bean store construc-
tion schedule.
Designed by Boston-based
Arrowstreet Architecture &
Design,
the
approximate-
ly 13,000-square-foot tenant
improvement project at Park
Meadows in Lone Tree was com-
pleted on an eight-week accel-
erated schedule versus a typical
L.L.Bean construction schedule
of 16 weeks due to demolition
and the building department and
South Metro Fire plan review cut-
ting down the schedule.
The space, targeting LEED certi-
fication, includes design elements
such as the use of log timbers from
the 2013 Black Forest fire burn scar
to build the kayak gear wall. As
well, reclaimed barn boards and
Douglas fir were sourced from the
Western Slope and used for a vari-
ety of design features throughout
the store.
“It’s been a privilege to be
associated with L.L.Bean’s iconic
outdoor brand and retail expan-
sion efforts,” said Joe Scheiner,
company principal. “Building this
unique facility has been a reward-
ing and collaborative team effort,
including our construction pro-
fessionals, Park Meadows’ mall
management, the city of Lone
Tree, South Metro Fire Rescue
Authority, the architects and engi-
neers, the site demolition contrac-
tor and, of course, L.L.Bean’s con-
struction and management team.
We are particularly proud of con-
structing their first retail store in
a state that is synonymous with
outdoor recreation, healthy living
and fitness.”
“We are very excited to open
our first store in Colorado. The
opportunities for outdoor recre-
ation are limitless,” Ken Kacere,
senior vice president and gen-
eral manager of retail at L.L.Bean,
said in a statement. “Our stores
are where the L.L.Bean catalogs
and website come to life for our
customers. We look forward to
introducing Maine to the Mile
High City.”
Located next to the dining hall
on the northeast side of Park
Meadows, 8401 Park Meadows
Center Drive, the store repre-
sents the westernmost store
for L.L.Bean, headquartered in
Freeport, Maine. It features an
assortment of active and casual
apparel and footwear, camping
products, winter gear and out-
door gear. The store also includes
L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery
School, which offers a wide vari-
ety of demonstrations, clinics and
introductory hands-on activities,
such as snowshoeing, kayaking,
archery and fly-casting.
