Rowland+Broughton completely
renovates Aspen’s Limelight Hotel
R
owland+Broughton Architecture and Urban Design is on target to complete
the renovation of 120 guest rooms and corridors at The Limelight Hotel,
located across from Wagner Park in Aspen, by late fall.
Intended to reinforce the hotel’s “Lighten Up” brand and create a welcoming en-
vironment for guests, the relaxed design aesthetic features a lighter color palette,
as well as new furnishings, finishes and soft goods. Sustainable specifications in-
clude post-consumer carpet tile and integration of existing case goods and artwork.
Previous Limelight Hotel renovations by R+B include six guest suites with a vi-
brant color palette and the informal lobby, where flexible and cozy seating groups
have created a living room for Aspen’s locals and tourists alike.
The Limelight Hotel has recently received the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Associa-
tion Green Leader Award, as well as Condé Nast Traveler’s Best Hotels in the West:
Readers’ Choice Awards 2014.

he new 50,000-square-foot Prospect Ridge Academy, a college prep high
school designed by DLR Group and constructed by JHL Constructors, re-
cently was dedicated and opened adjacent to the existing PRA Elementary
and Middle School and will accommodate 600 students in grades 9-12.
“Meeting the fast-track schedule required a collaborative effort from everyone
involved, and it’s great to be involved in that kind of team work," said DLR Group
Principal Bob Binder, AIA. "Focusing on the team’s memorable goals allowed us to
deliver a college prep design all within an environment that will foster collaborative
education and allow for change and growth in the future."
The charter school, which was completed using a design-build delivery method,
includes 24 teaching stations, a competition gymnasium, student commons with
performance platform and other site improvements. All spaces were designed to
be flexible enough to fulfill current programmatic needs while adjustable enough to
adapt to future changes. Sustainable/efficient design features include maximized
access to natural daylight, optimal building orientation, and highly efficient energy

Vertex demolishes, renovates Boulder
office space adjacent to Pearl Street
V
ertex was contracted to perform general contracting services for an executive office
client with whom the firm has worked in the past and continues to work with today.
The project consisted of full interior demolition of a three-story office building in
Boulder, adjacent to the Pearl Street Mall.
The high-profile address required a lot of planning for materials deliveries and job site
access. While other floors were still being demolished, framing began on the upper level and
worked its way down. The team of subcontractors had to show a successful track record in
high-end finishes and state-of-the-art materials.
The floor plan includes conference rooms, recharge bar, kitchens, reception/lobby, huddle
rooms, communications center, etc.The final product includes cutting-edge design features
while still serving as an efficient executive office suite concept. With most of the design team
out of state,Vertex relied heavily on photographs and video communication to ensure adher-
ence to the strict specs. The project was finished on time and on budget.

he Colorado Department of Agriculture was in immediate need of consoli-
dating multiple metro area locations into a single facility. The department

expansive lobby. Barnwood-style flooring connects customWestern landscape mu-

A barnwood-clad service desk still houses original cattle brand index cards. The
