Pass Christian Vietnamese community celebrates Tet
Bishop Roger Morin was principal celebrant for a Feb. 14 Mass at Holy
Family Catholic Church in observance of Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. At
the beginning of the Mass, elders of the Vietnamese community take part in
an incense ceremony. Father Joseph Trinh, pastor of St. Charles Borromeo
Parish in Picayune, gave a primer on Tet during his homily, elaborating on
the many rich symbols and traditions associated with Tet, including
liturgical dancing, as seen being performed by some of the younger members
of the Vietnamese community. Concelebrating priests, pictured at the altar
with Bishop Morin are Father Gil Enderle, CSsR, Holy Family pastor
Father Mike Austin and Father Chuong Cao, CSsR. At the end of Mass, the
bishop, each of the priests and Deacon Bill Vrazel were given gifts of
appreciation on behalf of the entire Vietnamese community. Father Joseph
Dao Vu, SVD, receives a gift from a young member of the community.
Bishop Morin and Father Austin handed out New Year blessings to everyone
in attendance.
