On Friday, Sept. 5, St. Alphonsus school was filled with several generations of
people to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. Students, their immediate families, grand-
parents, and family friends began the celebration with reflection and prayer at
Mass. The third grade class welcomed the grandparents by reminding the congrega-
tion that grandparents are models of faith for their grandchildren. After celebrating
the Eucharist as one community, the sixth grade class shared meaningful moments
with their grandparents.
One student shared, “When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you throw the
fish back, and I knew that life was important.” Other students spoke of how much
the “little things” their grandparents did meant to them.
As a symbol of passing on the faith to their grandchildren, the grandparents
gave a candle to their grandchildren. This symbol reflected St. Alphonsus School’s
theme for the year --
Share the Light
.
After Mass and reflection, students enjoyed time with their parents and grand-
parents in the classrooms. The day was a celebration of life and the light that Jesus
has brought to us on Earth.

On Friday, Sept. 5, St. Vincent de Paul Elementary held their Grandparents Mass.
The second grade class led the Mass celebrated by Fr. Louis. Afterwards, grandparents
had the chance to visit their grandchildren’s classroom for a little while, then were
invited to the cafeteria for refreshments where they were able to visit.

the prayer tree with Father
Louis and Ashtyn McShane’s
