MOA Architecture received a
research facilities design award
from the Design Build Institute
of America for its work on the
$26 million Bioscience 2 medi-
cal research laboratory and aca-
demic facility on the University
of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical
Campus.
The 112,000-square-foot, four-
story building, completed in
April under a design-build con-
tract by Saunders Construction
Inc. and MOA Architecture for
the University of Colorado, is
LEED Gold certified.
“It’s an honor to earn this pres-
tigious award from the DBIA, an
organization that defines, teach-
es and promotes the best prac-
tices in design-build,” said Brian
Konczak of MOA Architecture.
“Bioscience 2 reflects a very suc-
cessful project that was able to
achieve the mandate of an inte-
grated project delivery model by
following the design-build pro-
cess. By working collaboratively
with Saunders Construction, we
were able to deliver a building
that offers an unrivaled range
of opportunity for bioengineer-
ing students, as well as research
and development companies of
all sizes, from small start-ups to
established industry leaders. It is
truly the best of its kind.”
Developed as a partnership
between the University of Colo-
rado Denver and the Fitzsimons
Redevelopment Authority, the
Bioscience 2 building houses the
University of Colorado Depart-
ment of Bioengineering andmul-
tiple private biotechnology com-
panies including ClinImmune
Labs, Precision Biopsy, and iC42
Clinical Research and Develop-
ment. The facility provides edu-
cational and private laboratories,
which encourage alliance and
knowledge transfer across the
bioscience and biotechnology
academic and corporate commu-
nities. The project includes full
design and build-out of the inte-
riors with a variety of program
spaces, including classrooms,
study rooms, teaching laborato-
ries, wet and dry laboratories,
clean rooms, office space, confer-
ence rooms, IT support, cryo-
genic freezer areas, acid storage
and support areas.
Bioscience 2 was 70 percent
preleased prior to project com-
pletion and is now 100 percent
occupied.
As well, MOA Architecture
announced that industry veteran
Chet Lockard has merged his
company, Project Guide Services,
with the firm’s Wyoming office.
Under the direction of Lockard,
MOA will have a greater pres-
ence in the state, with offices in
Laramie and Casper.
“MOA Architecture has been
among the most respected and
trusted architectural firms in
the Rocky Mountain region for
more than 35 years, and has
established a strong presence
in Wyoming since 2010,” said
Lockard. “The merger of PGS
with MOA Architecture will
provide clients with a seamless
approach, with creative solutions
and stopgap measures to ensure
that the design and construction
of their projects happen in the
most timely and cost-effective
way possible.”
MOAArchitecture has worked
on several notable projects in
Wyoming, including the Casper
College Music Building, CAPS
STEMAcademy, Gillette College
Student Housing and Hoyt Hall
Renovation at the University of
Wyoming.

The 112,000-square-foot, four-story building was completed under a design-build contract by Saunders Construction Inc. and MOA Architecture.
Ware Malcomb recently was
recognized by the Tilt-Up
Concrete Association with an
Achievement Award for its
work on the Prologis Stapleton
Business Center North Building
1 in Denver.
The tilt-up warehouse is a
402,398-square-foot speculative
facility and incorporated sever-
al architectural features, includ-
ing lay-up panels, floating pan-
els and spandrels that reach
over 50 feet. The corners of the
building incorporated three-
story recessed storefront glass,
covered canopies, floating pan-
els and bearing spandrels. The
complexity of the architectural
details required careful plan-
ning, the firm noted.
“It is an honor to be recog-
nized by TCA for our work
on behalf of our clients,” said
Matt Chaiken, regional direc-
tor of Ware Malcomb’s Denver
office. “The Prologis project is
a perfect example of Ware Mal-
comb’s longstanding experi-
ence designing tilt-up facilities
throughout North America. The
detail and precision that went
into designing this warehouse
is a true testament to our team’s
innovation and keen design
eye.”

Davis Partnership Architects
will occupy more than 21,000
square feet at its new home at
the Bindery on Blake at 2901
Blake St.
The firm moved its offices to
the single-story structure and
designed the complete renova-
tion of the space along with
upgrades to the building exte-
rior.
The facility is designed to
meet aggressive goals for ener-
gy conservation, and LEED
certification is being pursued.
“We are truly excited about
continuing the Davis Partner-
ship legacy in this striking
historic structure,” said Brian
Erickson, principal at Davis
Partnership Architects. “The
open nature of the space, the
abundant daylight and the
striking effect of the exposed
structure offer us an environ-
ment well-suited for inspira-
tion, collaboration and design
excellence.”

Davis Partnership Architects moved into its new space at the start
of 2016.
