Rowland+Broughton Archi-
tecture and Urban Design was
selected as the interior design
partner for the renovation of the
60,600-square-foot Hyatt Regen-
cy Denver at Colorado Conven-
tion Center.
Design work will bring a con-
temporary new look and feel
to 35 meeting rooms and pre-
function areas as well as the
30,000-sf Centennial Ballroom
and 14,000-sf Capitol Ballroom,
the firm noted.
“We are honored to be a part
of this high-profile project in the
heart of Denver,” commented
Rowland+Broughton Principal
Sarah Broughton, AIA. “It’s a
terrific opportunity to merge the
urban sensibilities of our Denver
studio. In alignment with Hyatt
Brand Standards and sustain-
ability goals, our design team
will extend both a new, mod-
ern aesthetic and professional
functionality to the conference
center. In turn, guest experiences
will be energized and uplifted
as well.”
In alignment with the con-
temporary design of the overall
hotel and newly renovated guest
rooms, the conference center’s
new look will focus on impart-
ing a true sense of Colorado
spirit and place, R+B added. The
nearby Rocky Mountains will be
evoked through layers of texture
and natural earth tones within
a framework of contemporary
design details. Meeting rooms
will feature flexible furnishing
layouts that can be configured
for multiple functions, including
collaborative or individual work
sessions. Prefunction space will
include seating areas with mod-
ular furniture, as well as bench-
es, seating pods and moveable
acoustic screens.
Work is expected to be com-
plete in September at the hotel,
located adjacent to the Colorado
Convention Center at 650 15th
St.

Roth Sheppard Architects
recently completed the first
phase of the expansion and
renovation of the Cucina Colo-
re Modern Italian Trattoria &
Bar in Cherry Creek North.
The contemporary-casual
space at 3041 E. Third Ave.
originally was designed by
Roth Sheppard Architects’ co-
founder and design principal
Jeffrey Sheppard, AIA, more
than two decades ago andwhen
the adjacent 1,100-square-foot
space next to the restaurant
opened, Cucina Colore owner
Venanzio Momo jumped at
the opportunity to expand the
neighborhood restaurant.
“We are committed to remain-
ing a Cherry Creek landmark
for many years to come. To
demonstrate this to our loyal
patrons, we've expanded our
space while enhancing our
design and amenities,” said
Momo. “Naturally, Jeff Shep-
pard was the person we called
as his initial design truly met
the test of time. We could
not be more thrilled with the
results, and our accelerated
growth since reopening has let
us know that our customers
feel the same.”
Completed in early June, the
first phase provided added
space for an expansive wine
bar, two community tables and
additional banquet seating.
The restaurant's new island
bar, which seats 20, now func-
tions as the centerpiece of the
neighborhood gathering place.
A wraparound patio has also
been added on Third Avenue,
doubling the restaurant's out-
door street front seating.
Cucina Colore's existing
slate-covered walls, blonde
birch wood and angled glass
elements formed the founda-
tion for the restaurant's expan-
sion into the adjoining space
to the west. The airy new bar
– now the focal point of the
restaurant at double the size
of the old – welcomes patrons
as they enter with its curved
wood arch ceiling designed
to mirror existing design ele-
ments, according to Roth Shep-
pard. The bar's overhead cove
also is embedded with LED pin
lights that illuminate the stone
bar top with dappled light in
the evening.
Steel shelving racks behind
the bar display wooden wine
boxes filled with wine, olive
oil bottles and authentic Italian
ingredients featured in Momo's
family recipes. A peg wall also
displays more than 1,000 bot-
tles of wine from around the
world, accented by a gallery of
Momo’s personal collection of
decanters displayed on a glass
shelf.
“We are honored to have
worked with Venanzio for
more than 20 years and are
thrilled to have been select-
ed to design his first restau-
rant, and now his first major
expansion and remodel,” said
Sheppard. “This is indeed a
welcome addition to Cherry
Creek, where Venanzio has
established a rich community
tradition for more than two
decades and is now poised to
delight patrons for many more
years to come.”

W.E. O’Neil Construction
Company of Colorado, in con-
junction with ai Design Group
and owner Sonic Automo-
tive Inc., broke ground on the
new Mercedes-Benz of Denver
dealership.
The site at 940 S. Colora-
do Blvd. in Glendale will be
home to the 93,464-square-foot
vehicle repair and sales facility
complete with a third-story car
display mezzanine.
“We’re proud of what we’re
building here in Denver. When
the project is complete, we
will be the flagship Mercedes-
Benz store in the Denver area;
it will be a spectacular facility
with over 30 new Mercedes-
Benz models showcased in
our climate-controlled show-
room. That’s sure to please
our customers,” Steve O’Kane,
general manager of Mercedes-
Benz of Denver, said. “Beyond
that, we’re doubling our ser-
vice department, which adds
numerous jobs and benefits the
community.”
The groundbreaking initi-
ated the demolition of an exist-
ing structure and the begin-
ning of additional site work in
preparation for the dealership,
which will offer a variety of
services beyond retail sales. It
is slated to have a sales floor,
reception and waiting area,
individual offices and mainte-
nance bays. A car-sized eleva-
tor will also be constructed to
transport vehicles to and from
the third-floor display mezza-
nine.
W.E. O’Neil recently con-
structed an EchoPark dealer-
ship for Sonic Automotive in
Highlands Ranch earlier this
year. The W.E. O’Neil team
