Become a Game Developer
2D Video Game Design
It’s easier and cheaper now than ever
to get into game design, but there are
many options and the learning curve can
be steep. This class teaches the basics
in a way that anyone can understand.
You’ll enter the game design field at its
simplest level: 2D games in the style of
those from the classic Atari and Super
NES eras. Walking through the design of
these “simple” games will give you the
fundamental knowledge you need to go
on to build more complex games or join a
design team. In this hands-on class in the
CFU computer lab, you’ll use the Game
Maker Studio Engine to create a simple
“pong” type game.
Tylor Chacon
has been
a game designer, working with versions of
this engine, for 10 years. He taught a highly
successful beginner’s class at his local
library and is excited to make the fun of
game design accessible to CFU students.
Bring a USB memory drive so that you can
take your game home with you.

Blogging Basics
Hands-On Training
Within this three-hour course, you will
gain a basic introduction to blogging
and complete the following tasks: sign
up for a practice blog via Blogger, create
your first post, and become familiar with
customizable features. Students new to
blogging usually come with a purpose for a
potential blog, but want to see a hands-on
step-by-step instruction. For those who are
completely new to the concept of blogging,
we will explore the reasons for and benefits
of blogging. Why do you want to start
a blog? As a personal on-line journal, to
increase traffic to your business, to share
your thoughts on politics, spirituality,
or movie and book reviews? This is an
interactive class that is personalized on
the spot depending on students’ needs.
Evon Davis
, creative writing instructor at
CFU, has a “lifestyle” blog, Warrior-Goddess
Chronicles that has been a cornerstone of
her career.

Maintaining Electronic
Privacy in the Modern Age
Which organization do you believe is a more
active threat to your privacy: the NSA or
Google? The answer might surprise you.
In this sister-class to “Safe Computing…,”
discover how your privacy is being eroded
and why it is so troubling. For example,
would it surprise you to learn that when
you purchase an item on the Internet, you
might be charged more than “the next
guy” simply because the seller has learned
about you and knows you will pay more?
Learn methods to counter the ongoing
“attacks” on your privacy, and leave with a
trove of information to continue exploring.
