Windsor Gardens Life

Windsor Life Page 4 Writers Group. Dan and Pat formed several great friendships during their time here. They lived in a couple different retirement residences before settling into Cherry Creek Retirement Village. Dan will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through the people that he touched in his 88 years. Helen Marie Kreoger passed away December 1, 2018, just four weeks shy of her 99th birthday. She was a resident of Building 53 for over 40 years. A Denver native, Helen grew up in the loving home of her maternal grandparents at 5th and Galapago. She was a bright, imaginative and creative girl who busied herself with school, chores and building things in her next door neighbor’s garage turned workshop. Helen graduated from Manual High School in 1938 and began her working career as a secretary for an insurance company. She later worked as a stenographer and also an underwriter. Helen attended Central Christian Church for over 80 years, the oldest and longest standing member. She met her husband, Julian Kreoger, a farm boy from Burlington, Colorado, during one of the weekly dinners the church would host. Julian was a WWII serviceman and many of the airmen stationed at Lowry or lodging at the YMCA across the street would attend these dinners. Helen and Julian were married in 1951. They married late in life and had no children, so they decided to travel and explore the world. They visited every state in the U.S. and traveled to almost every continent as well. IN REMEMBRANCE continued from page 3 Helen was passionate about Broadway shows, the symphony, and the Trocadero Ballroom at Elitch Gardens. Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Guy Lombardo and Lawrence Welk – she saw them all!  She rubbed elbows, flirted and got many of their autographs. She and Julian loved to dance. After 25 years of marriage, Julian passed away in 1977. A year later, Helen and her mother moved to Windsor Gardens. She soon joined the Windsorettes women's golf club and the sewing club. Her closets were full of beautiful clothes she had made over the years. She was an avid walker and took in all the beautiful sights Windsor Gardens has to offer.  Helen was an amazing artist as well.  She sketched scenes and the faces of people she had met. Helen enjoyed dinners and Sunday Bronco games hosted by her neighbors. She loved long-neck Coors Light beer, and was a shrewd Texas Hold ‘em player.  She could be a sore loser if she didn't collect the bets and winnings in the center of the table at the end of the card game. Helen entertained with her stories of traveling the world, her memories of the famous people she had met and her love of life. At 98 years young she was still the life of the party.  Helen had a flare for fashion and sported sequined pants, bright pink lip stick, and gorgeous hair, EVERY day. Hence, her nickname, "Miss Fancy Pants."  Her sense of humor and sarcastic wit were always delivered with a grin. She had a comeback for everything. Helen was an extraordinary human being. Her friends miss her immensely and are comforted by their memories of happy times together.
