Long time Windsor Gardens resident Mona Barnwell passed away on January 11, 2019, in Paris, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Friends and residents of Windsor Gardens remember Mona for her expertise in nursing, since she was a nurse for over 40 years. Mona was always ready to help anyone with caring and compassion. She is missed. Daniel Hardesty passed away, as he wished, on the anniversary of his mother’s birthday, February 14, 2019. He was a wonderful, caring, intelligent man who loved his family, storytelling, puzzles and all types of music. Dan is survived by Pat, his wife of 66 years, four of five of his daughters and one son, as well as several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Dan and Pat lived in Windsor Gardens from 2003 through 2015. Dan was active in Windsor Garden activities. He enjoyed volunteering at the Windsor Gardens Library one day a week and participating in the continued on page 4 The Kindness of Strangers On the morning of Tuesday, January 29, after a significant snowfall the previous evening, I went down to my car in underground parking in order to drive over to CenterPoint for two meetings. Alas, due to old age (my car’s battery....not mine....mind you!) my car wouldn’t start. So at that point, determined to get to my meetings, I commenced to trudge over to CenterPoint. Kudos, as ever, to Dana and his reliable, hard-working maintenance crew for clearing the sidewalks. However, the city streets of Clinton and Center were solid sheets of ice. After I had ever so cautiously shuffled my way across Clinton and Center, knowing full well that I was holding up at least six or seven vehicles at each intersection, the lead vehicle on Center made a right turn; the driver, who didn’t know me from a load of coal, stopped and rolled down her window and asked, “Can I give you a ride to CenterPoint?” I immediately jumped in her car, thanked her profusely, and she delivered me to the front door of CenterPoint. After hurried introductions and as I was exiting her car, I told her that good continued on page 5
