Registration is ongoing for par-
ticipants in Stockbridge’s sixth
annual Memorial March. The free
event is set for May 30 at 9 a.m.,
at the Merle Manders Conference
Center, 111 Davis Road.
The march will recognize mili-
tary veterans for Memorial Day,
says the center’s Coordinator,
Econuel Ingram.
“We have a 92-year-old World
War II veteran who is going to be
leading the march,” he said.
“There aren’t many World War II
veterans left, so we want people
to come out and show their patri-
otism and honor veterans past,
present, and future.”
The deadline to register for the
march is May 20. Ingram encour-
ages individuals and groups to
take part in the event.
“We want to try to sign up at
least a couple hundred citizens to
join us in the march,” he said.
Transportation will be provided
for those who are unable to make
the one-mile walk.

Christopher Davis of
McDonough hopes his upcoming
musical performance will help to
convey American pride to his lis-
teners as Memorial Day
approaches.
“What I hope the audience
leaves with is a renewed sense of
patriotism for our country, and the
hope that our country can reclaim
putting God back as Lord of this
nation,” says Davis.
He will perform a patriotic con-
cert on May 21 at 6:30 p.m., at
Jodeco Baptist Church, 1290
Jodeco Road in Stockbridge.
Tickets are $5 per person or $10
per family. Proceeds from the
concert will go toward mission
trips this summer.
Davis, 42, studied Opera per-
formance at Lee University and
performs with the Griffin Choral
Arts. He says the concert will fea-
ture a number of patriotic tunes
with which the audience will be
familiar, including “The Star
Spangled Banner,” “God Bless
America,”
“America
the
Beautiful” and “God Bless the
USA.”
Davis attends Griffin First
Assembly, where he is involved in
the music ministry. Still, he says
he has enjoyed performing at
Jodeco Baptist numerous times
over the years, and that they are
“like family” to him.
“My connection to the church
was through a member named
Pam Ray,” he says. She orches-
trated having me do a concert
there, and I immediately fell in
love with the congregation’s kind-
ness and love for the community.
I have regularly been a guest
singer ever since.”
The concert is a combined effort
of the church’s Women’s Ministry
and Military Ministry at Jodeco
Baptist. Ray, a leader in the
Women’s Ministry, says Davis’
vocal talent is just one aspect of
what impresses her about him,
along with his testimony.
Ray is hopeful that the concert
will help to remind people about
the importance of patriotism and
honoring the sacrifices of those
who have served in the military.
“America is facing many chal-
lenges today and sometimes we
simply watch from the sidelines,”
she says. “It is time we stand
together and look at where we
have been and where we are
going.
With Memorial Day coming next
week, this seems like an appropri-
ate time to ‘wave the flag’ and
bring to mind the sacrifices that
our soldiers have made and con-
tinue to make.”
The event will also feature
recognition of military veterans in
attendance, and a presentation of
the colors.
Tickets can be purchased in
advance or on the day of the
event. For more information, call
