Darren Miller says flying flags
at his McDonough restaurant
helps him honor those who put
their lives on the line for others.
CJ’s Hotdogs put up eight flags
Saturday in honor of police, fire
and military personnel at their
new location, at 600 Macon St.
“We have friends and family
members that served in the mili-
tary and public safety, and they
do not get the praise and recogni-
tion that they should,” says
Miller. “If it wasn’t for them, we
wouldn’t be free to do what we
want and safe to live here. It’s
the least we can do, when every-
one is bashing police, to lift them
up and know that we appreciate
all the sacrifices that everyone
makes for us in the military and
public safety.”
Miller notes that the flags are
not the only tools he uses to
honor those who work in public
safety or in the armed forces. The
décor of the restaurant, he says,
features patches, pictures and
other memorabilia that have been
donated by customers.
“People will come from far
away or make a stop when trav-
eling through Georgia just to
come in and give us something
of theirs or a family member to
display,” says Miller. “We love
to hear about the person that
these things belong to. People
love to come by and read all the
patches from all over the world
and hear about the people that
owned them or brought them in.”
Miller says he is grateful for the
support his restaurant has
received from the local commu-
nity for his decision to fly the
flags.
“Everyone is very excited and
happy,” he says. “The outpouring
of support we have received
from McDonough and Henry
County has been amazing. We
are truly blessed to live in a great
part of Georgia!”
