St. Francis Xavier Parish celebrates
installation and birthday of new
pastor
Bishop Roger Morin installed Father Jose Vazquez as pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish
in Wiggins and St. Lucy Mission in Lucedale on March 15. Pictured, l-r, are Deacon M.J.

community also celebrated Father Jose’s 35th birthday. Father Jose was previously parochial
vicar of Sacred Heart Parish, Hattiesburg.
St. Joseph Church, Gulfport, receives
traveling Icon of the Immaculate
Conception
The Knights of Columbus have been responsible for a traveling Icon of the
Immaculate Conception in honor of the 350th Anniversary of the establishment
of the first cathedral in the North American Continent in 1664 in Quebec,
Canada, the Basilica-Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Quebec. This Icon was
formally received at St. Joseph Church, DePew Road, Gulfport prior to Sunday
Mass on March 2 for devotion, prayer, and honor by parishioners until Ash
Wednesday. St. Joseph Fourth Degree Assembly 2347 Knights of Columbus
solemnly processed into church carrying the Icon, then placed it near the altar
for prayer and reflection. A prayer service and Rosary recitation honoring the
Immaculate Conception as Patroness of the United States was conducted on
Ash Wednesday at the conclusion of evening services, whereupon the Icon was
transferred to the next parish on its journey throughout the United States.
St. Thomas the Apostle American Heritage Girls
Troop 3230
Girls in St. Thomas the Apostle’s AHG Troop 3230 recently earned their Mother Teresa patch.
As part of the “saintly service” required to earn this emblem, the girls hand-tied warm fleece
blankets. These blankets will be distributed at the upcoming Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care
System “homeless stand-down”.
