only a handful of diocesan schools
participated in the Ronald McDon-
ald House fundraiser, held in honor
of Sophia Mohler, on Feb. 28 at Na-

diocesan school participated and we
thank them all for their support of

LONG BEACH -- Are you ready for

how to make and grill the famous “Sis-
ters’ Vietnamese chicken, beef, shrimp,

friends this Spring and Summer and for
those special family celebrations. All the

tians to help support their project with
Catholics Returning Home
KILN -- Do you know someone who
has left the church? Most of us do not
have to look very far to find non-practic-
ing Catholics in our circle of family and
friends. Many of us are concerned about
these loved ones, but we don’t know how
to help them. Obviously, most of them
are searching, but how can we help them
find their way home?
As baptized, practicing Catholics, we
have a precious gift of faith and love from
the Lord that needs to be shared with our
non-practicing brothers and sisters. First,
we need to pray for them. Next, we need
to extend a personal invitation to them to
come home to the Catholic Church. Most
non-practicing Catholics carry with them
a tremendous amount of guilt and mis-
information about the Church and are
afraid of approaching the church for
fear of being rejected. You can make a
tremendous difference in someone’s life
simply by reaching out to them and tell-
ing them that we miss them and would
like for them to come back home to our
Church family.
Here at Annunciation Church we
have a special program to help non-prac-
ticing Catholics return to the Church en-
titled
“Catholics Returning Home.”
The
6-week series begins Tuesday, April 29,
2014. Please pass this article on to any-
one who might be interested.

“Backpack for the Homeless.”
According to a recent census/count
for homelessness, the homeless count
within our Long Beach/Gulfport Com-
munity is 450 not counting children.
Young Vincentians will be putting to-
gether backpacks filled with items that
everyone needs (toothpaste and tooth-
brush, food, soap, blankets, clothing, bi-
bles, etc.). So far, our Young Vincentians
enjoyed making fleece scarves to add to
our backpacks.
Sr. Cecilia, Sr. Mary, Sr. Martha, and
Sr. Maria offer to host a cooking class
on Monday, April 7 at 6 pm in the parish
kitchen to help raise money so that we
can purchase items to add to our back-
packs. Our goal is for each YV member
to have a backpack to keep in their cars
and when they see a homeless person or
family, they can offer them the backpack.
Suggested donation for each participant
is $25 and this includes drinks and a taste
of our famous kabobs at the cooking
class. Please make your check payable to
“SVDP Young Vincentians” and drop off
the check at the parish office or mail it
in by Sunday, April 6, with attention: Sr.
Cecilia. Questions or to RSVP… please
