St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis
Saint Stanislaus is pleased to announce that Bill
Conides has been named Head Football Coach for the
Saint Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws for the 2014 season.
Saint Stanislaus Football Head Coach Gabe Fertitta
will be moving on after this school year, having accept-
ed a position as Offensive Coordinator at Catholic High
in Baton Rouge, LA.
Coach Fertitta, the
Sun Herald
’s Coach of the Year
whose team went undefeated in the regular season this
year and finished with a record of 12-1, noted that,
"The Saint Stanislaus community has been overwhelm-
ingly supportive in my three years as head football
coach. I am happy to say that the Brothers of the Sacred
Heart’s mission is alive and well here in Bay Saint
Louis.” His decision to leave was based on a number of
family and professional considerations, including the
opportunity to go back to Baton Rouge and coach for
his mentor Coach Dale Weiner as his first offensive
coordinator in over 25 years of coaching. Coach Fertitta
remarked that the departure was certainly not an easy
one, however: “The administration, faculty, and parents
at SSC have been a football coachʼs dream come true
during my tenure. Above all, the thing I will miss the
most about SSC is our young men of character. They
are the hardest working young men I have ever been
associated with. I will always love Saint Stanislaus
because of the outstanding job the school does in rais-
ing young boys into men of character. I donʼt know
why anyone on the coast wouldnʼt want to make every
sacrifice in order for their son to attend such a fine
school.”
The school administration did not have to look far
for his successor, however. Coach Bill Conides, who
received a Bachelor of Arts in history from Hampton
University in Virginia, already has extensive experi-
ence as a football coach, hav-
ing served as the Offensive
Coordinator for the Saint
Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws for
the past two seasons. Prior to
that he was Offensive
Coordinator at Bonnabel High
School in Kenner, La., and
Offensive Line Coach at East
St. John High School in
Reserve, La. and at Franklin
Parish High School in
Winnsboro, La. He has also
served as the junior high coach
for the very successful Rock-
A-Chaw soccer team.
As a teacher of United
States History and AP United
States History at Saint
Stanislaus, Coach Conides has
proven himself to be the con-
summate leader both in the
classroom and on the field. He
has been in charge of the offen-
sive game plan, practice plan, practice schedule and
play calling, as well as the overall training and develop-
ment of the quarterback position since he arrived. In
2012, against Poplarville, the SSC offense broke the
national record for total offense in a single game with
937 yards. In 2013, on the way to an undefeated regular
season and 12-1 overall record, the school’s offense led
the state of Mississippi in every offensive statistic pos-
sible, including total offense, passing yards, receiving
yards, yards per game, and points per game. Coach
Conides commented that, “Words cannot describe how
honored I am to become the new head coach here at
Saint Stanislaus. Coach Fertitta has established an
excellent foundation that we plan on building upon as
we move forward. Our young men are committed to
success as we are working towards taking that next step
this year.”
Coach Fertitta added that, “Coach Bill Conides is an
outstanding coach and mentor to our young men. His
football knowledge and ability to reach our young men
has been second to none in his two years as offensive
coordinator here and I know he will do an outstanding
job.”
Patrick McGrath, principal, sees this is a bittersweet
moment for Saint Stanislaus. “We are extremely proud
of our Football Rock-A-Chaws and what Coach Fertitta
has been able to accomplish this year with the remark-
able turnaround from a winless season to an undefeated
one. Yet, I am even more pleased with the job that
Coach Fertitta and his staff have done to form our
young men into the men of character they are. Coach
has inspired our team to be the hardest working, most
committed and most disciplined group of young men
anywhere in the state. We will certainly miss Coach
Fertitta’s dedication to this team and our school, but
most of all the excellent role model of a man of faith
and family that he is on a daily basis.”
Despite this change in coaches, Mr. McGrath con-
siders the school blessed to be able to tap Coach
Fertitta’s highly successful successor from within its
own ranks. “Coach Conides was our top candidate from
the outset -- he knows our boys, our system and our
school and, above all, he lives out our educational mis-
sion every day in how he deals with our young men.
And it doesn’t hurt that he really knows his football,
while also being an excellent classroom teacher.”

Sacred Heart Elementary, DʼIberville
Students in Ashley Murphy
ʼ
s Kindergarten class began their unit on penguins. Their first discovery came in the way of how male penguins carry their unborn
babies. Left, each student, l-r, Alana Nelson, Aidan Muller, McKenna Odom and Phi Nguyen, placed a balled-up play-doh on the top of their feet and tried to walk.
They also measured each other to determine what type of penguin they would be. The students also discovered how a penguin
ʼ
s blubber keeps them warm. Right,
Kindergartens Grayson Brister and Phi Nguyen, placed one hand in a Ziploc bag submerged in ice and the other hand in a bag of Crisco shortening also submerged
in ice. The result being their hand was well insulated in the Crisco. The students will continue to study the fascinating world of penguins.
