Jordy Construction and BOSS Architecture

bring new look to Rioja for 10th anniversary

D

enver-based general contractor Jordy Construction finished construction

on Rioja on Larimer Square in Downtown Denver. After building out Stoic &

Genuine in Union Station with BOSS Architecture for chef Jennifer Jasinski

and partner Beth Gruitch, Jordy Construction was brought on to give new life to the

10-year-old Rioja.

The interior was stripped down to raw brick and studs. The goal was to give the

space a new sleek, modern and luxe atmosphere. Together with BOSS Architecture,

Jordy Construction completed the extensive construction project on an accelerated

timeline of 3½ weeks in order to minimize down time for the popular restaurant.

Rioja re-opened on Feb. 4.

The new design boosts a warm color palette with woods, gold and brass accents,

and rich sage green crushed velvet chairs and booths. The restaurant now features

banquette seating options and a “residential" style lounge, while retaining the chef-

centric patron experience. The design also features a new centrally located wine

display to complement Rioja’s robust wine program.

Adolfson & Peterson breaks ground on

new joint police and fire training center

C

onstruction has begun on a new joint training facility for the city of Aurora. Designed

for collaboration, this new training facility will combine the city of Aurora's police and

fire departments into one training facility. The new facility will provide better training

for emergency situations in which both departments are required to respond. The city cur-

rently has more than 670 police officers and more than 340 firefighters and has not had a

joint training facility in more than 35 years.

Teaming with architect Studiotrope, this design-build project includes a 40,000-sf edu-

cation and training building with office and conference areas and will integrate the latest

technology. On the 23-acre campus will be a new 7,000-sf, five-story drill tower structure,

an on-site pump house and a 3,500-sf class-A burn building. The new facility will have an

internal circulation system designed for the clean vs. dirty traffic flow.

The site will accommodate future growth plans including a 7,700-sf tactical/search/res-

cue structure; a 34,500-sf five-building tactical village; and a training site that will include

vehicle extrication, trench simulation and haz-mat training.

Vertex Cos. completes repairs to

Florence High School Stadium

T

he Vertex Companies Inc. completed numerous projects at Florence High

School in Florence over the last year to repair construction defects primarily

caused by expansive soils.

Vertex originally served as cost estimating and liability experts during the litiga-

tion phase of this matter and also served as the structural engineer of record for the

repairs.

The most recent phase of repairs included corrections to the football stadium

grandstand walkway. The main pedestrian landing and walkway heaved and was

deemed unsafe for use. Vertex demolished the landing and CMU retaining wall,

installed new drilled piers and rebuilt the landing and stairways. The project was

completed just in time for the Huskies to compete in their first home football game

– which the Huskies won with a score of 34-21. The school was originally con-

structed in 2006 and this was the first time the field had been fit for use.
