Gulf Pine Catholic • April 10, 2026 19 During Lent, each grade (secondsixth) takes a turn leading the rest of the school in praying the Stations of the Cross on Wednesday afternoons. Fifth grade did a “Shadow Stations” when it was their turn. Some of the fifth graders portrayed the people in each station by posing behind a large white screen that was backlit creating a silhouette or shadow of each station. This gave the rest of the school powerful images to focus on during the prayers. The fifth graders who weren՚t portraying characters, took turns announcing each station and leading the school in prayer. It was a powerful prayer experience. Teacher Katie Smith found the project on line and thought it would be a fun project for the children. The children gathered in the pavilion to make He is Risen treats using graham crackers for the base, green icing, Nilla wafer cookies, Easter sprinkles, Popsicle sticks, and hot glue. Lisa Seymour made the crosses by gluing one of the Popsicle sticks on top of the other, then writing He is Risen or some other Easter saying on it. To create the base, Jennifer Fazzio spread green icing on a full graham cracker. Then the adults cut the bottom one inch off of the donuts, giving them a flat place to stand up, then placed one on each graham cracker The children added a Nilla wafer beside the opening of the donut to look like the stone that was rolled away. They stuck the cross into the top of the donut and finished by sprinkling Easter sprinkles in the icing. The children created a beautiful snack they would love and they were so easy to make.
