Gulf Pine Catholic • March 27, 2026 13 On St. Patrick's Day, a leprechaun breeched the security at St. Vincent dePaul School and ran around campus. He began teasing the students during morning assembly, lovingly called Prayer and Pledge. The school's security officer, Officer Gene Dedeaux, was called to the assembly and finally caught him. It՚s been said that leprechauns can shrink themselves to get out of being caught; so hopefully he won't come back throughout the day ..... Leprechaun running through Prayer and Pledge. Audience members enjoyed more than just great theater -- the evening featured a hearty spaghetti dinner served alongside the on-stage drama, which centered on a fast-talking movie director whose lofty promises turned out to be anything but what they seemed. Plenty of laughs and a few gasps peppered the night as guests tried to piece together the evening՚s central whodunit. The production showcased the talents of student performers from both St. Stanislaus and Our Lady Academy, drawing strong community turnout for what proved to be a memorable night of dinner theater. On Saturday, March 7, the Rocks claimed the Class 3A title, defeating the Quitman Panthers 49-36 in a dominant performance that wasn՚t as close as the final score suggests. St. Stanislaus outscored Quitman in all four quarters, never letting the Panthers find their footing. Senior Rafael Cohen Ramirez put the team on his back offensively, pouring in a game-high 22 points to earn MVP honors for the championship game. Big man Max Baria was equally impressive inside, finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds to anchor the Rock-A-Chaws՚ frontcourt. The victory carries special meaning for head coach Daniel Grieves, who was on the court the last time SSC won it all. Grieves was a key player on the 2011 championship squad led by coach Jay Ladner -- and he wore his ring from that title run on the sideline Saturday night. The family ties run even deeper. Grieves՚ father, Danny, was an assistant under Ladner in 2011 before building a successful head coaching career in Illinois at Metamora. After retiring, the elder Grieves returned to Bay St. Louis to join his son՚s staff, reuniting the family on the same Rock-A-Chaws bench. Grieves, the program՚s all-time leading scorer, has now added a championship as a coach to go alongside the one he earned as a player.
