Thank you Parker Indian Health Center News & Updates All content on pages 14 & 15 submitted by Parker Indian Health Center A LETTER TO OUR CRSU STAFF FROM THE CEO: There are Hero’s among us. And they are YOU! Goal 1, Objective 1.1 of the IHS Strategic Plan is to “Recruit, develop, and retain a dedicated, competent, and car- ing workforce.” It seems hard to focus on a strategic plan or anything else except COVID-19 at this strange time in our lives, but I have to say that my thoughts went back to this goal as I thought about the amazing efforts being taken by each of our IHS staff during the last few weeks. They are my Hero’s! In fact, I think everyone in the healthcare field right now, and all those others on the front lines are heroes! We know that COVID-19 impacts each person not just at work but home as well. Many have family members who have lost their income due to business closures. Children are home from school and have lost their daily routine. Many of those involved in sports or looking forward to milestones like graduation ceremonies, etc. may not get to experience these things. Parents are strapped to provide daycare in the absence of those supports. Elders in the hos- pital or even at home are not allowed visitors, even by their closest family! Many are stressed about not being able to obtain the bare necessities at the grocery store. And people are afraid. For themselves and especially for their loved ones. Work is stressful as we learn new and safer ways of handling our patients and our jobs. Demands and expec- tations seem to change by the day, and sometimes by the hour. The community we serve may not understand as they deal with their own fears and struggles, and staff sometimes feel unappreciated. Yet despite all of these pressures, we dig deep to pull out those hidden resources within ourselves that get us through the hard times, keep us focused on the mission no matter how hard, and remind us that there WILL be better times ahead. The majority of us have faced hard times before and we know that “this too shall pass,” and we will be stronger for it, and perhaps be more appreciative of the simple pleasures of celebrations, gatherings, a hug, or even a simple handshake. But for now, stay strong, stay focused, practice self-care, and take care of each other!! What is the definition of a hero? It’s each and every individual that puts their own needs aside to serve the needs of others. There are others out there too besides healthcare workers. EMS workers, Fireman, Police, and Grocery store clerks, etc. Thanks to ALL of you for being there and carrying this heavy load. We will get through this and to the other side if we all work together.
