A4 June 2022 • Community • www.lwca.com Jason, Clark, and Rhonda talk legacy, leadership, and moving the community forward! This is history in the making! Jason Doll, Clark Collier, and Rhonda Cap represent the Executive Team of Leisure World. One may say that this is poetic in nature as the three have come together to usher us into a new phase of change on the brink of celebrating the community’s 50th year. One cannot begin to understand the huge task that lay upon the shoulders of these three visionaries, yet Leisure World News was granted a small insight into how the three plan to shape their goal, manifest the vision, and empower their staff along the way. Jason Doll: Community Manager Leisure World News: Since becoming Community Manager, how are you shaping your vision for Leisure World? JD: In the last number of months, my goal has been to alter our culture by being more transparent and making sure we are communicating more effectively. My goal has been to build a teamwork rapport between our Board and staff, resulting in a stronger community. Being out with residents has helped in hearing their ideas, concerns, and excitement, allowing us to better direct what we do. I have worked to build a stronger team of employees, encouraging them to excel and reach for a higher standard of care and service. I have asked to hear from residents and employees, to enhance our amazing community. Leisure World News: What are your priorities for leading Leisure World? JD: My first priority is cultivating a relationship with the residents that ensures trust and assurance. My goal is to propel forward, making our community the most desired place to live in the valley. By focusing on outstanding projects and issues and moving forward to address them in a way that provides a stronger and more enjoyable place to live. In doing so, I will communicate openly and transparently and am committed to being visible in the community throughout the week, working on projects, visiting with residents, and ensuring that everything is running smoothly. Leisure World News: With the addition of Clark, how do you believe this new executive team will work together to manifest this vision? JD: I am excited about our executive team and believe we have a group of leaders who collectively will help drive us to new and greater standards, focusing on our employee mission and vision, and enhancing our community even further. I believe our team, collectively, is one of the best teams I have ever had the honor to work with. I believe Clark is a great addition to our team and will be a great help in driving our standards and service to a new and greater level. I know that Rhonda and Clark will help us advance forward, making Leisure World an even greater place to be. Leisure World News: What is the legacy, your footprint that you would like to leave the Leisure World community? JD: For Leisure World to be known as the “most desired place to live and to work” in the valley. That our residents and guests would see a positive transformation and enhancement in the look, aesthetics, facilities, opportunities, programs and service – so much that those who live outside Leisure World would be jealously peering over the walls to get inside. Leisure World News: What leadership impact would you like to impart to your staff? JD: I hope that I can motivate our team to reach their full potential, excelling at what they are doing. I want our employees to feel valued and know that their efforts and dedication are what will contribute to the success of LW. I want our staff to know that I believe in them and desire to hear their creativity and ideas. I want them to find meaning in their work and leverage connection with the residents. My hope is that our staff will believe that, overall, LW is the best place to work. LeisureWorld News: What is the “buy-in” for you to see the success of Leisure World? JD: I would like residents to provide their input and ideas so we can continue to grow and develop. Also, residents support and encourage the staff, letting them know what they are doing well. I would like for staff to be assured that we will always do what we believe is in the best interest and value of the residents as a whole. I love Leisure World. I love the residents. I love the staff. I am honored to work for Leisure World. Clark Collier: Assistant Community Manager Leisure World News: What is your personal philosophy? CC: I actually have two I like to live by: Do the right thing, every time. People first, people always. Leisure World News: As the first Assistant Community Manager, how do plan to shape the role to be an integral part of the vision for Leisure World? CC: Leisure World is a large community, with a lot of great residents. I want to help Leisure World continue to drive towards excellence and make it the most desirable place to live in Arizona. My goal is to get out and listen to what residents have to say and find out how we can improve the community. Part of my job is freeing up the community manager to do the same. My addition should help provide better access to staff for residents and help with the many projects that the HOA is responsible for. Leisure World News: How do you think that you, Jason, and Rhonda’s different experiences and backgrounds will contribute to the expansion of the Leisure World vision? CC: Individuals on the same team, but with various backgrounds and experiences can arrive at some of the best decisions. I believe that Jason, Rhonda and I have enough different experiences to bring new ideas and creativity to Leisure World, which will ensure it continues to thrive. Leisure World News: What is the most important contribution to Leisure World’s legacy that you would like to give? CC: That residents will always say they were treated with care and respect and that they regard moving to Leisure World as one of their best life decisions. My goal is to get out and listen to what residents have to say and find out how we can improve the community. Rhonda Cap: Operations Manager and Lifestyle Director Leisure World News: What has been the “buy-in” for you in maintaining your dedication to the success of LeisureWorld? RC: The opportunity to build something that helps change people’s lives for the better. I started with Leisure World in 2003, when Iwas hired to open and run the Fitness Center and develop its programming. How better to affect change than by helping to improve one’s health and well- being? Over the years, I’ve come to see how a community like Leisure World offers many different avenues and activities for people to get involved with and invest in themselves. My role has evolved a number of times throughout my tenure, and I enjoy new challenges and thrive on spearheading change. It is the great teamwork and family atmosphere that drives me toward continual growth and productivity. LeisureWorld News: You have seen the growth of Leisure World, what makes you confident in the expansion of the Leisure World vision from this executive team? RC: Collectively, we can have any number of ideas or plans of advancement for the community; however, it’s a forward-thinking Board of Directors that allows us to make progress. Leisure World News: What are you most excited about in the upcoming two years? RC: Growth in technology and the start of renewing or refreshing our facilities to modernize. LeisureWorldNews: As the only woman on the executive team, in what ways do feel that you will continue to break boundaries and push growth? RC: I don’t think this question is appropriate, as it enforces sexism to me, and being female should not affect the job. LeisureWorld News: What is your personal philosophy? RC: Life is ever-changing. I look to be challenged and to what comes next. The sayings “If you build it, they will come.” and “If you don’t ask, it will never be.” resonate with me. It is the great teamwork and family atmosphere that drives me toward continual growth and productivity. Leisure World News: What is the legacy that you would like to leave for individuals that may come behind you? RC: To be a leader that inspires others to drive forward and harness the power of change. A Special Conversation with Visionaries LeisureWorld’s I am honored to be working with my top two executive team members, Clark and Rhonda.
