A4 January 2022 • Community • www.lwca.com Photography Club Displays Holiday Greetings By Bob Bennett The Leisure World Photography Club used their display case next to the Computer Center to create a holiday greeting for all residents. The club wanted to share their gratitude for the many residents who participate in the monthly Display Contest and wish everyone Happy Holidays! The special display was up for the month of December but returned to the normal display contest format for January. On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the Photography Club will once again participate in the Leisure World Foundation lecture series. This year, the presentation will feature travel photographer Roger Naylor who will share highlights from his latest book, “Arizona’s Scenic Roads and Hikes.” His book covers Arizona’s best — from the deserts to the mountains, the Grand Canyon to Sedona, and Native American villages to Route 66. The Leisure World Photography Club will exhibit photographs that support this theme. The exhibit will be available at 5:00 p.m. and the lecture at 6:00 p.m. The Photography Club also sponsors the annual “Theme-Within-A-Theme” contest which will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Rec 1 Classroom. For this year, this unique show will feature the theme, “Street Scenes.” It is then up to each participating member to create a set of five photos reflecting their own interpretation of this theme. All residents are invited to enjoy the show and vote for their favorites. Happy New Year! More information on the Leisure World Photography Club, visit https://www.lwphoto.club/. Hansen January is the perfect time to buy your shoeboxes to start filling them throughout the year for Samaritan’s Purse - Operation Christmas Child. Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for children around the world. Since then, more than 188 million children in more than 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love. The New Year allows those of us playing Santa Claus to have choices of lid colors, if you are buying the sterilite brand of plastic box. Please remember the shoebox equivalent should be about the size of 13” x 7.5” x 4.7.” Hobby Lobby should still have the green and red logoed Operation Christmas Child boxes available for purchase. These same boxes can be purchased online at Samaritan’s Purse. If you would like a sturdy cardboard shoebox, visit https://www.samaritanspurse.org/ occ and purchase one there.
