MG SPROUTS is a Master Gardener Extension Volunteer-led horticulture pro- gram for children ages 6-9 years of age. Children's literature provides a base for each of the six sessions. Listen to a garden-related story and explore the world of plants through hands-on horticulture, writing, games and other fun activities. Sign-ups are required to attend and children are encouraged to attend all six sessions. This program takes place July 30 and August 1, 6, 8, 13, 15 (4:00 – 5:00 PM). Page 8 Summer 2019 The Library Times OUT OF THE BOX: Interactive Space Programs for kids Out of the Box, a mobile interactive discovery and science museum, will be visiting the Locust Grove Library on Thursday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. Two awesome pro- grams offer a chance for children to learn about science through video and hands-on interaction. These programs are recommended for ages 3 to 12. "One Giant Leap" studies some of the amazing science of Space Flight, how astronauts sleep and exercise and even features a full-size replica of an Apollo space suit! "Up, Up and Away" will teach the science and history of flight. Witness remote control flights of planes and video camera drones. Jason Clark is bringing his reptile friends to the Locust Grove Public Library! Come see (and maybe even handle) snakes, lizards, and more! Jason is from Southeastern Reptile Rescue, and his show is always a delight. Learn how you can stay safe and respect these crawly, slithery friends when you see them, and the safest ways to make sure you don't cross paths too often! All ages are welcome at Locust Grove Library on Monday, June 3, at 2:30 p.m. for this fantastic show to celebrate the kickoff of the summer reading pro- gram. Snakes not your thing? Have no fear, cute cuddly poodles are going to be here too! The Magical Poodles - Trick Dog Show will excite children of all ages and families. It’s a "Dog Gone Fun Show!" Michelle and her adorable poodles will perform a variety of dog tricks, with an educational twist. Audience interactive and family oriented, this program promises to be a crowd pleaser for all at the Locust Grove Library on Wednesday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. Animal Adventures presented by Robin Pressley - Meet exotic animals, explore inter- esting biofacts from around the world, as well as fascinating facts about the food chain, endangerment, habitats, and adaptations of many different kinds of animals. Dream the impossible and "Reach for the Stars" program presents stories about animals in space! Marc Griffiths and his puppet friends will present a funny and excit- ing program to encourage self-esteem, aspirations, setting goals, and empower- ing children and families to make great choices. Come to the Locust Grove Children’s Department June 11 at 11:00 a.m. to decorate your own waffle creation! Presented by Waffle House. Children will be able to decorate their own real waffle space alien or space ship. Enjoy a story about aliens, and take home a yummy treat. Waffles and supplies are furnished but limited. Recommended for ages 3-7, but all ages are welcome. Ken Scott's "To the Moon and Back" Magic Show Ken Scott captivates his audience with truly amazing magic, audience participation, and sidesplitting comedy. Join us at the Locust Grove Library on Wednesday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. for Ken Scott's Magic Show. OUT OF THIS WORLD CRAFTS FOR KIDS! The Locust Grove Library offers a variety of free crafting fun for kids this summer, some programs do require sign- up but all supplies are provided! Blast Off Storytime and Craft Program is geared for young pre-school children up to 6 years old, but all ages wel- come. Each program includes stories, songs, rhymes and crafts about space, rockets, and aliens. Join us at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, June 18 and 25 and July 2, 9, and 16. Planetary & Solar Bead Craft Wednesday, June 19 at 2:00 pm: Join us for an educational bead craft about the solar system, planets, and the sun. Due to choking hazards, this program is for children ages 6-12 years of age. Adults must accompany all children under the age of 12. Galaxy Space Slime Program Craft Wednesday, June 26 at 2:00 pm: Children will use their imagination and create some ooey-gooey, out of this world galaxy space slime. There’s nothing like chilling out with some crafts, and the Locust Grove Young Adult Department will be getting creative all summer long! These programs are geared towards teens and tween; all supplies are provided! Galaxy Cookie Decorating for Teens – Wednesday, June 19 at 4:30 p.m. Where can you find a delicious edible galaxy of your own creation? At the Locust Grove Public Library! Come learn how to create a beautiful galaxy on top of a cookie! We've got colorful icing and the tools to turn it into a beautiful piece of edible art! Space Rock Candy – Monday, July 1 at 3:30 p.m. Come melt down some space rocks into delicious space rock candy! Pick the shape you want your space rocks to be and get ready for a totally galactic treat! Cooking with Chef Carlin – Thursday, July 25 at 4:00 p.m. Join the Locust Grove Young Adult Department for a real-deal cooking class! Come learn to make delicious food with Chef Carlin! We’ll use seasonal and delicious ingredients found on Earth to create our “Out of this World Food”. We’ll make the main dish, side dish and end with a sweet treat. After the hands-on work, we’ll enjoy our tasty creations: Island Chicken, Brazilian Cobb Salad, and Fancy Fruit Tarts. Of course, cooking is fun and tasty but there are several learning opportunities with recipes and cooking. Cooking teaches reading, math, proj- ect management, and creativity.
