KIHNEMAN III Bishop of the Diocese of Biloxi Every year, I have the privilege of visiting all our Catholic schools. During each visit, I have the opportunity to meet with a select group of students who have prepared questions for me. Perhaps you have seen these videos on our diocesan YouTube and Facebook pages? If not, I would encourage you to check them out by scanning the QR code on this page. As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, I would like to share with you a sampling of questions and answers that have come out of these sessions. Q -- Why is God’s love for us everywhere we go? Isabella Lominchar, 1st grade, St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School, Picayune BK -- God’s love follows us everywhere because God loves us so much! He brought us into the world, He created us, and He wants us to stay in love with Him every day of our lives so that we can share His love everywhere. Bishop Kihneman Catholic school students have questions for Bishop Kihneman especially, but also in intercessory prayer. All of those are special, special moments. Q -- Which prayer form is your favorite and why? Adelynn Illich, 4th grade, Sacred Heart Elementary School, D’Iberville BK -- The prayer form I like the most is really a prayer that is a presence prayer, being in God’s presence in silence. I do not have to say anything, and God does not have to say anything. We sit in each other’s presence and love each other. However, all the prayer forms are special to me. Q -- Why do you always take your hat off during Mass? Charles Fowler, 2nd grade, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, Picayune BK -- The hat a bishop wears is called a miter. At certain times during the Mass, we take it off because it is a moment when we are praying specially to God. When I get to the altar, I have it off because I do not want to have anything between God and me. Everything is direct. The other times when I have it on, we remember that we are in the time of the Word of God, letting the Word of God sit in my life as a part of life. Q -- What is it like to go to Rome and meet the pope? Laurel LaBouef, 3rd grade, St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School, Long Beach BK -- It is really neat to meet the pope, especially Pope Francis, who called me to be a bishop. He is very down to earth. We had a chance to visit with him for a couple of hours the last time I was in Rome. He is a very good man, a very holy man and a man that loves the Church deeply. As do I. Q --How selective would you say it is for a priest to become a bishop? Brady McCaw, 11th grade, St. Stanislaus College, Bay St. Louis BK -- I had a better chance of being hit by lightning than I did of becoming a bishop! It was a surprise because the process is pretty involved. It is actually the Holy Father who chooses who will be a bishop in a particular area. The committee of bishops, after a thorough inquiry process, gives the names of the nominees to the committee of bishops in Rome. They pick the names of three people with their dossiers and put them on the Holy Father’s desk. The Holy Father picks out of those three names who is going to be chosen. It is very rare. SEE BISHOP’S QUESTIONS, PAGE 8 Q -- Why does God allow bad things to happen to people? Vivvie Teneyck, 6th grade, Sacred Heart Elementary School, Hattiesburg BK -- In life, there are a lot of things that happen that appear to be good or appear to be bad. In the end, all of those moments are moments that we are meant to meet God. For example, if there’s somebody out swimming and a shark bites their arm, that is a bad moment for them, but the real question is: Who is God for them in that moment of being hurt and how can they meet God in the middle of that hurt? It’s not so much a matter of good or bad. It is a matter of us meeting God in the good and the bad in life all the way across the board. Q -- What is your favorite thing to do as a Bishop? Jeremy Privett, 3rd grade, Nativity BVM Elementary School, Biloxi BK -- One of my favorite things to do is to visiting you at the schools and celebrating Mass with you. Q -- Did you ever see Mary, Jesus or God? Patrick Arguelles, 5th grade, Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, Biloxi BK -- The answer to that is yes. To experience Mary, to experience Jesus, to experience Joseph, and to experience God is not hard to do with Imaginative Prayer , Lectio Divina , and with Visio Divina ,
