Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Biloxi On Sept. 8, the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, Our Lady of Fatima Parish had a birthday celebra- tion for the Queen of Heaven. It began with the recitation of the rosary in the Adoration Chapel. Father Henry McInerney led the praying of the rosary. Monsignor McGough, Father White, Deacon Ron Alexander, and Deacon Paul Matherne led the praying of each decade of the Joyful Mysteries. The birthday celebration then continued in the Parish Hall. A statue of Our Lady of Grace was on display in the hall with a fresh flower arrangement of white roses, carnations, lilies, and ferns. Surrounding the Blessed Mother was an assortment of colorful Marian gift bags containing rosaries, Miraculous Medals, holy cards, and devotional material. After Father Henry said the grace and gave a talk extolling the virtues of the Blessed Mother, the master of ceremonies invited all to the buffet table where there was a bountiful display of covered dishes and desserts. Spiritually uplifting Marian hymns provided the background music. Everyone then joyfully sang “Happy Birthday” to the Mother of God. The children were invited to help blow out the birthday candles on the Blessed Mother’s birthday cake adorned with a lovely image of Our Lady and 12 red roses. As the birthday cake was being cut and distributed, many participated in a Marian sing-along conducted by the choir director.
