Kihneman III hands over the keys to the new St. Peter the Apostle Church to parish council president Billy Knight before the March 3 dedication. Bishop Kihneman pours Oil of Sacred Chrism on the altar. Bishop Kihneman and St. Peter the Apostle pastor Father Joseph Benjamin, S.S.J., anoint the altar with sacred Chrism. Bishop Kihneman anoints one of the dedication crosses on the wall. With the assistance of Deacon Bill Vrazel, Bishop Kihneman places incense into a brazier filled with lighted charcoal. Water is poured into a Baptismal font and blessed by Bishop Kihneman. Bishop Kihneman passes through the church sprinkling people with holy water. The bishop deposits a relic of St. Peter into the altar. Deacon Karl Koberger, vested in red to symbolize the martyrdom of St. Peter the Apostle, lights dedication candles held by Lawanna Stringfield and Nancy Williams. Bishop Kihneman receives gifts from St. Peter parishioners.
