Volume 36 No. 15 www.biloxidiocese.org March 22, 2019 Catholic ST. LOUIS: Sister Clare Bass, who entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 2010, takes her per- petual vows on March 30. Originally from Biloxi, Mississippi, Sister Clare attended St. James Elementary School in Gulfport and is a graduate of Mercy Cross High School, class of 2001. She is a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Sister Clare is the daughter of Mike and Susie Bass of Biloxi and granddaughter of the late Warren and Clare Hornsby. She is a proud aunt of Dylan, Mia, and Elena Mitchell. She is a sister to Michele (Bass) Mitchell and Brett Mitchell. Sister Clare is grateful for the influence of the women religious who served in the diocese, especially the Irish Sisters of Mercy: Sister Rita Murray, Sister Rose Hennessy, Sister Kathleen Byrne, and Sister Anna Quinlan, Sister Theresa and Sister Mary Riordan; Daughter of Charity Sister Joanne Cozzi, Marianite- Sister Mary Ann Peltier and Sister of St. Francis Sister Mary Jo Mike. Sister Clare is also grateful for the influ- ence of Bishop Joseph Lawson Howze, whose life we continue to celebrate, as well as Father Paddy Mockler, and Father Dennis Carver who faithfully continue to serve the people of God. Sister Clare is a graduate of Mississippi State University with both a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in public policy and administra- tion. She is currently working on a master’s in social work at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, and hopes to be a child and family therapist. She is passion- ate about social justice and is a member of the prov- ince’s Cultural and Racial Justice Committee. “I am humbled by the great love and support of God, my family, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and friends along the way who have all helped me reach this momentous life occasion of professing final vows,” she says. “My heart is filled with gratitude for all of life, as I take this next step.
