Rowland+Broughton completely
renovates Aspen’s Limelight Hotel
R
owland+Broughton Architecture and Urban Design is on target to complete
the renovation of 120 guest rooms and corridors at The Limelight Hotel,
located across from Wagner Park in Aspen, by late fall.
Intended to reinforce the hotel’s “Lighten Up” brand and create a welcoming en-
vironment for guests, the relaxed design aesthetic features a lighter color palette,
as well as new furnishings, finishes and soft goods. Sustainable specifications in-
clude post-consumer carpet tile and integration of existing case goods and artwork.
Previous Limelight Hotel renovations by R+B include six guest suites with a vi-
brant color palette and the informal lobby, where flexible and cozy seating groups
have created a living room for Aspen’s locals and tourists alike.
The Limelight Hotel has recently received the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Associa-
tion Green Leader Award, as well as Condé Nast Traveler’s Best Hotels in the West:
Readers’ Choice Awards 2014.

Timeless and transparent:
RNL-designed BakerHostetler
B
akerHostetler, an international, full-service law firm, relocated to the newly
updated 1801 California Street building.
With that move came the opportunity to design a timeless, purposeful space
with layered transparency and intricate detailing.
Extraordinary views of both mountain and cityscape await visitors upon entry
to BakerHostetler’s 43,000-square-foot Denver office. A blend of glass, intricate
marble floor patterning, as well as wood ceiling and wall elements create a refined,
elegant palette that reinforces the geometry of the building and maximizes views.
A grand staircase was added to bridge the two floors, creating a physical connec-
tion and interaction opportunity for employees.

MSU’s Aerospace Building puts
GH Phipps back on Auraria Campus
G
H Phipps is returning to the Auraria Campus to build the Aerospace Engineering
Sciences Building, a project designed to serve as a keystone of Metropolitan State
University’s educational mission.
This 142,000-square-foot, $47 million building will house the school’s programs in Avia-
tion and Aerospace Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design,
and Physics – courses related to Colorado’s current push to promote STEM education and
the state’s growing presence in the aerospace industry.
The Aerospace building is slated to meet standards for LEED Gold certification. Construc-
tion is expected to begin in late spring 2015. CSU says that the next phase in the project will
involve building facilities for the Global Food Innovation Center, devoted to teaching, research
and innovation in the school’s Meat Science program – including its own fully functioning
meat-processing facility. The last phases are scheduled to be complete in January. A portion
of the building housing the meat lab will remain occupied during the renovation work.

Norris Design teams with Zocalo,
JG Architects on The Grove
N
orris Design collaborated closely with Zocalo and JG Architects to design
a unique, LEED-certified community for empty-nesters that blends resort-
style living with a walkable, healthy lifestyle.
Within 100 steps of Stapleton Town Center and at the hub of miles of walking and
biking trails, The Grove appeals to an active lifestyle.
Amenities include a zero-entry pool with lap lanes, hot tub, shade cabanas, com-
munity gardens, potting shed, bike repair and storage, rain garden, outdoor grilling
area and dog park. The design goal of the community was, from the outset, to cre-
ate a true sense of place that fit within the Stapleton brand.
