Page 2 — Health Care Properties Quarterly — January 2019 www.crej.com Contents Letter from the Editor I n the nearly three years that the Health Care Properties Quarterly has been published one thing has remained consistent – the continued strength of this sector. Leasing, development, sales – it’s been a constant since the Colorado Real Estate Journal started this publication in June 2016 and it is showing no signs of slowing down. This issue highlights the leases, groundbreakings, sales and open- ings happening within the health care and senior housing and care markets. Additionally, the authors in this issue all give voice to the necessity of how health care and senior hous- ing and care has to adapt to meet and adapt to the evolving needs and wants of its users today and tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, an article by Forbes recently detailed its pre- dictions for the overall health care industry in 2019, including that digital health technology catering to out of hospital settings will grow by 30 percent to cross $25 billion globally by the end of the year. It noted that “favorable reim- bursement policies toward clini- cally relevant health applications” will expand care delivery mod- els beyond physical medicine to include behavioral health, digital wellness therapies, dentistry, nutri- tion and prescription management. Is this the future for Colorado’s health care and senior markets? It will be fascinating to see how, if and when this prediction plays out within our state. How does this alternative health care delivery method jibe with the continued demand for both hospitals and medical office buildings coupled with the looming swell of baby boomers looking to a variety of senior living options? Is this a trend that will take root first in rural locations in Colorado? Or will this be something we see first in urban and suburban locales? Will it expand upon the retailization of health care that we already seeing? As always, we couldn’t do this publication without you and your contributions. Please feel free to send us any and all of your con- struction and development news, new hires, sales announcements as well as your contributed articles on the health care and senior hous- ing and care market, or an answer to what is the future of Colorado’s health care and senior market. It is your voices that are the heart of the quarterly – and for that we are so appreciative. Have a great start to 2019! See you in the second quarter!
