he word entrepreneur stirs up images of
someone who has a brilliant idea and initial-
ly lacks any robust infrastructure. Much like
the founders of Facebook used their college
dorm as a lab and their swift genius of computers to
launch what today is the No. 1 social media outlet in
the world, Chad and Troy McWhinney saw the vision
of their entrepreneurial spirit in strawberries. And so
it began …
The two brothers began with a few strawberry stands,
which grew into more than 28, some of which are still
in operation today. Starting as junior high-aged kids in
1986, Chad and Troy realized, along with their two other
brothers, the time was “ripe” for the entrepreneurial spirit to come alive.
After a number of years operating the strawberry stands and continu-
ing to grow revenue to nearly $1 million, the brothers heard the call to
venture out to Colorado, and form a real estate development company
with their late father. Founded in 1991, McWhinney is a fully integrated
real estate development, investment and management company that
creates master-planned communities, multi-use projects, and develops,
owns and manages income-producing properties.
McWhinney has created several master-planned communities consist-
ing of over 6,000 acres of land, and developedmore than 6 million square
feet of office, industrial, medical, hospitality, retail and 1,700 multifami-
ly apartment homes throughout the Rocky Mountain region and West
Coast.
McWhinney is an evergreen company with a long-term vision of suc-
cess that is active in all phases of the real estate cycle. The firmmanages
a diverse portfolio of real estate assets and adapt to changing marketing
conditions. McWhinney currently owns a $1 billion diversified portfolio
of assets that provide stable recurring cash flow, allowing to invest in
future opportunities.
