Reaching the 35-year milestone fills me with a million emotions� What a journey this has been! My brother, John Hand, founded the school to strengthen community through the sharing of knowledge� He expressed his idea when he said, “Communities have within them the resources to solve their own problems� For everyone with a problem or question, there is someone with a solution or answer� CFU brings those people together�” In 2004 John was killed and I took over as president� I’m astounded to realize that I have been at the helm for the same amount of time now as John! What began as a way to maintain his legacy has become a life mission for me� I am humbled and honored by the generosity of our instructors who come to us from the community to share their skills and inspiration for very little financial reward� I am delighted by our students who take control of their lives when they choose to build new skills or expand their perspectives� And, I adore my scrappy little staff who work their tails off to make this learning network happen� This is likely to be the last paper catalog that we print as we transition to a digital format for future offerings� So, we’re using this as a celebration of our 35 years� Please leaf through to see the abundance of learning opportunities and read the celebratory comments from a few of our awesome teachers and messages from John� When CFU opened in 1987 there were many lifelong learning centers around the country� Today only a handful remain� If you value the opportunities we offer, please help ensure that CFU lives on� Tell your friends, post on social media, and, most importantly, join us in class!
