The series ’ 11 Mighty Ways of Highly Effective Teens ’, based on the book ‘ 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens ’ by Sean Covey, explores 11 ways for teens to incor- porate mega habits and principles into their life to become their best version. Introduction What traits distinguish a high school superstar from another who is sub-par? What characteristics make a teen highly effective compared to others who may be treading on paths that are defective? In this new series, ’ 11 Mighty Ways of Highly Effective Teens ’ - based on the best-selling book ‘ 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens ’ by Sean Cov- ey (which in turn was adapted from the all-time best-seller ‘ 7 Habits of Highly Effective People ’ by his dad, Stephen Covey ), we will explore 11 ways for teens to incorporate mega habits and principles into their life to develop into superstars. Here’s a quick primer on the 7 Hab- its, the seven characteristics that happy and successful teens the world over have in common. These habits progressively build upon each other, and deal with aspects related to your Private Victory (self-mastery), Public Victory (relationships & teamwork), and Renewal (nourishing the self): 1. Habit 1: Be Proactive – Take responsibility for your life. 2. Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind – Define your mission and goals in life. 3. Habit 3: Put First Things First – Prioritize, and do the most important things first. 4. Habit 4: Think Win-Win – Have an everyone-can-win attitude. 5. Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood – Listen to people sincerely. 6. Habit 6: Synergize – Work together to achieve more. 7. Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw – Renew yourself regularly. These habits can help you: • Get control of your life; Increase your self-confidence • Improve your relationships with family and friends • Make smarter decisions • Improve your time management skills - Get more done in less time; Find bal- ance between school, work, friends, and everything else • Define your values and what matters most to you • Live a happy and fulfilling life I have picked 11 key areas to focus on from across these 7 habits – 11 ways you can transform your life. Each month for the rest of the year, students of Leadership GYM will share an overview and their experiences and views on one of these top- ics…which will hopefully resonate with you, our teen reader. Our adult audience will find these useful as well, whether through connecting with their personal lives or those of their children. You don’t need to ace all the areas to see the results. Just living some of the ways some of the time can help you with dramatic improvements in your life. Wishing you most and more as you embark on this journey of self-discovery and mastery to become the best version of yourself… During a job interview the other day I poured some water into a cup and it overflowed slightly, “Nervous?” asked the interviewer. I replied, “No, I always give 110%.” I like escalators, because an escalator can never break; it can only become stairs. There would never be an " Escalator Temporarily Out of Order " sign. Only an " Escalator Temporarily Stairs... Sorry for the Convenience ."
