McWhinney, the master developer of Centerra and The Lakes at Centerra, along with its architect and design partner DTJ Design, based in Boulder, announced that their Lake Club at The Lakes at Centerra recently won the Platinum Award for Community Facility from the National Association of Home Builders Best in American Living Awards. Additionally, the Lake Club won Best in Mountain Region, made up of Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The Lake Club is a 3,000-square-foot community facility located at the heart of The Lakes at Centerra. It overlooks Houts Reservoir and is adjacent to the pool, outdoor trail system, Frank Farm Park and High Plains Environmental Center. DTJ incorporated an exposed timber trussed roof structure crafted from select Douglas fir timbers sourced in the Pacific Northwest and skinned with tongue-and-groove decking into the spacious design of the clubhouse. The large picturesque windows provide inspiring lake and mountain views that overlook a naturally preserved trail corridor, community dock and wetland area where natural habitat can regularly be spotted. The double-sided fireplace serves as the focal point of the room and the portable furniture can be rearranged for any event, seating up to 50 guests with gathering space for many more. Warm bursts of orange and yellow colors fill the walls and compliment the crisp white demonstration kitchen. “We’re thrilled with the recognition from NAHB,” said David Williams of DTJ. “To know that your work is considered the best of its kind in the country is a great honor.” Kimberly Timmons Interiors also was honored by NAHB. Looking toward the future, KTI took home the award for Best 55+ Clubhouse on the Boards for Robson Communities’ SaddleBrooke Ranch Clubhouse during the Best of 55+ Housing Awards. The design rethinks the traditional golf clubhouse by blending a high-end residential perspective with a splashy, modern style that will give the community a place of pride and enjoyment for many years to come. “Being recognized for our work is always a thrill,” said KTI Owner Kimberly Timmons-Beutner. “Working with owners, builders and project partners to create special spaces that inspire and delight is what drives our firm.”
