Brian Dietz, LEED AP, joined Opus Development Company LLC as senior manager, real estate development. He has 12 years of real estate experience, including asset and portfolio management, commercial development and private equity investment management. Dietz holds a Master of Business Administration in real estate finance and construction management from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Science in studio art from Skidmore College. Fred L. Otis, an attorney with Otis Bedingfield & Peters LLC, was recognized by Martindale-Hubbell for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in real estate law and for holding an AV Preeminent Rating for more than 15 years. Otis currently is a managing member of the firm, where he routinely represents clients in all types of real estate transactions and is regularly responsible for handling commercial real estate and business transactions. Over his more than 40 years of practice as a real estate lawyer in Greeley, he also has served as a municipal court judge for the city of Greeley, taught real estate law at Aims Community College, and prior to entering private practice, he was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Matt Huelskamp was promoted to executive vice president for Hyder Construction. In this expanded role, Huelskamp will add talent management and key strategic planning initiatives to his business development responsibilities. He joined the firm in 2007 and held roles including project engineer, project manager, business development manager and director of business development. Jeff Dean was named vice president of leasing and acquisitions at Corum Real Estate Group. Dean has more than 12 years of commercial real estate experience ranging from leasing and acquisitions to asset management. In his new role at the real estate firm, Dean will be responsible for overseeing leasing as well as working directly with Mike and Eric Komppa to identify strategic acquisitions in office, multifamily and industrial property types for the firm and its partners. Prior to joining Corum, he spent 10 years at IBC Holdings LLC as director of real estate. While there, Dean was involved in many notable transactions, completing more than 1 million square feet of leasing, $100 million in acquisitions and $10 million in development. One of his first projects will be Cherry Creek Plaza in Glendale, where Corum will be remodeling the lobbies, common area, and workout facilities. Corum plans to introduce some great spec suites this year as well. Dean received his bachelor’s degree from California State University Chico in politics and his master’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in economics. Jared Carlon, firm partner and principal of Norris Design, was named North Metro Chamber of Commerce 2015 Business Person of the Year. The award was announced at the Chamber's annual Gala and Silent Auction. Carlon received the award based on his chamber efforts and involvement on behalf of the development council. Carlon has been with Norris Design, a planning, landscape architecture and project promotion firm, since 2002. He focuses on both planning and landscape architecture for mixed-use, single-family and multifamily residential, and retail and commercial developments. Galloway & Company Inc. recently announced its associate promotions. This year’s associates are Joe Schiel, PE, civil engineering project manager; Jim Erwin-Svoboda, PE, civil project engineer; Redge Hudson, PE, senior structural project manager; and Terra Mortensen, PE, site development coordinator and Fresno office manager. Tasha Bolivar, site development project manager, was promoted to senior associate. Roth Sheppard Architects expanded its leadership team with architects Adam Harding, AIA, and Brian Berryhill, AIA, elevated to partner. Harding received his degree in environmental design from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2004 and joined Roth Sheppard the same year. Recently, he was recognized by both the American Institute of Architects' Colorado Chapter and the six-state Western Mountain Region with their 2015 Young Architect of the Year honor award for exceptional leadership. Harding became licensed as an architect in 2011 at the age of 29. Berryhill, who previously worked for Oklahoma City-based design firm Elliott + Associates Architects, moved to Denver to join Roth Sheppard in October 2013. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oklahoma and became a licensed architect in January. CREW Denver awarded its inaugural Step Up awards to real estate developer Paul Tamburello of Generator Development and Jack and Judy Pottle of JBC Capital Partners. Together, Tamburello and the Pottles recently redeveloped a parcel in north Denver’s Sunnyside community into Cobbler’s Corner, a business and retail district at 44th Avenue and Alcott Street, home to a growing number of restaurants and retail establishments. CREW Denver introduced the Step Up award as part of its own rebranding initiative as it vows to step up its role in building leaders who will create and promote strong, healthy Denver communities through real estate. Ian Copland joined Taylor Kohrs as a project engineer following his 12-month internship with the company. During his internship, Copland was actively involved in estimating and operations. In his role as a project engineer, he is a part of the project management process creating supplemental schedules for material deliveries and subcontractors, develops submittal logs, updates weekly schedules, attends client meetings and manages the punch-list process. He is a recent graduate of Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in construction management. Joshua Do and Lindsay Slavin have joined Davis Partnership Architects as landscape architect intern and architect intern, respectively. They will assist in the development of design and construction documents for all project types. Do is a CalPoly Pomona graduate with a Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture degree. His experience includes work with design-build landscaping contractors, nurseries and interior design firms. Slavin is experienced in health care, laboratory research, telecommunications and senior living, having previous working experience with other local architectural firms. As an architect intern, she will assist the health care studio with various developments and currently is working on the Mind Springs project. Robert E. Stanley, PE, LEED, was named a vice president at Walker Parking Consultants. He has been with the firm for 18 years. Health care planning veteran Val Williams joined HDR and will be based in the firm’s Denver office. She will work with health care clients to design spaces that support and enhance health delivery now and in the future, while also assisting them to consider new ways of working to improve operational efficiencies and patient outcomes. During her 15-year career, Williams has planned and managed health care architecture projects on the Front Range and across the country for clients including Banner Health, Kaiser Permanente, Catholic Health Initiatives, Centura Health and National Jewish Health. She has also worked on multiple individual critical-access hospitals across the western region. Heath Therrien will oversee transportation infrastructure projects throughout Colorado as a new project manager in the Denver office of WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and professional services organization. Therrien has more than 17 years of experience in project management, engineering design, project controls and construction management for infrastructure projects, including highways, roadways and transit facilities. Prior to joining the firm, he was a project manager with a national engineering firm, responsible for managing various projects for multiple state departments of transportation. He also served as project controls manager for a large photovoltaic solar energy plant, substation and transmission line in California. Therrien received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Anna Campbell, EIT, a water resources engineer at Wright Water Engineers Inc., was presented the 2016 Young Professional of the Year Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado. The honor recognizes the outstanding talents, skills and abilities the next generation of engineering leaders, age 30 or younger, have shown on projects that significantly impact public welfare or further professional development and growth. Campbell initially worked with Wright Water Engineers on a contract basis, analyzing water quality issues on lawsuit projects because of her modeling abilities and broad background in the areas of water quality, floodplains, hydrology, wetlands and fluid dynamics. After joining the firm full time, she became an important contributor to a 10-month effort to investigate storm water discharges from a Hawaii landfill during two large storms. The U.S. Department of Justice originally alleged 13 felonies, including conspiracy and multiple violations of the Clean Water Act. Campbell was responsible for research and analysis on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitting; construction practices and scheduling; stormwater management practices, including best management practices; protection of public health, safety and welfare; municipal bio-solid characteristics; and water-quality data interpretation. Her efforts and those of the team resulted in an advantageous settlement for the firm’s client, which reduced the charges to two misdemeanors. Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering and a Master of Science in civil engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. David Thorpe joined Silverwest Hotels LLC, a Denver-based investment and management company, as managing director of design and construction. In this role, Thorpe will be responsible for overseeing Silverwest’s nearly $40 million of renovation work currently underway at the company’s various hotel properties. Silverwest currently is planning the renovation of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa in Hawaii, The Inverness Hotel in Denver and its three San Antonio properties. In addition, Thorpe will direct the construction of the Element by Westin in West Des Moines, Iowa, scheduled to begin construction this spring. Prior to joining Silverwest, Thorpe most recently served as vice president of Shaw Construction in Denver. His career also includes positions as development executive overseeing a large urban mixed-use project in Denver, and vice president of development for Vail Resorts Development Co. At Vail Resorts, Thorpe oversaw the redevelopment of Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club and worked on the development of The Arrabelle at Vail Square, a 500,000-square-foot mixed-use development and luxury hotel. He also provided technical construction support services to Rockresorts for renovations and hotel capital expenditure projects.
