Apache Junction High School sophomore Alyx Ayers was chosen a Division II, Section IV, 1st Team All-Section softball player following her outstanding 2015 season. The recognition came from www.azpreps365.com. Ayers was named one of four infielders named to the All-Section team along with Ashley Michelena from Mesquite, Stacia Seeton from Westwood, and Haley Denning from Arcadia. Ayers mostly started at third base for the Lady Prospectors this past season but is also an outstanding defensive catcher. She batted .357 (30-for-84), scored 24 runs, drove in 17 runs, and had fie doubles, one triple and one homerun in addition to her terrific defense. Ayers also drew a teamhigh fifteen base-on-balls, giving her a .450 on-base percentage, went 4-for-4 in stolen bases, and finished her sophomore year with a .500 slugging percentage. Her sophomore numbers are quite similar to her freshmen stats when she batted .368 (28-for-76) with 26 runs scored, 28 RBI, four doubles, one triple and one homerun In two full varsity seasons, Ayers has collected 58 base hits, has scored 50 runs, and has driven in 30 runs. Five other Lady Prospector softball players were recognized as Honorable Mention All-Section, including McKinley Kelley, Mikayla Gilgert, Breanna Conklin, and twins, Kayla Pettis-Miller and Kendra Pettis-Miller. Kelley, just a freshman, batted a team-high .529 with 36 RBI, and also was 3-2 as a pitcher. Gilgert, also a freshman, batted .397 this season, went 5-9 as a pitcher, and struck out 79 batters in 72 and a 1/3 innings pitched. Conklin batted .342 and was a sophomore, Kayla Pettis-Miller carried a .356 batting average with a teamhigh 10 doubles, and was 6-4 as a pitcher, and Kendra Pettis-Miller batted .386 for the Lady Prospectors, who went 14-15 overall. The twins were both juniors this past season Although they just recently finished their 2015 high school varsity softball season, the Lady Prospector softball team will be gin their Tempe Summer League play next week at either Kiwanis Park or Daley Park.
