The Longmont Area Economic Council awarded five Cornerstone Awards to Longmont businesses to recognize their contributions to the economic health of the community over the past year during its 15th annual Cornerstone Awards Luncheon. This year’s awards recognized businesses in each of the Advance Longmont Target Industries – advanced technology, bioscience, creative arts and culinary, and professional services and information technology. New this year, the economic council also presented an award to specifically recognize the contributions of small business to Longmont’s economy. “With this year’s awards, we really wanted to bring attention to the Advance Longmont Target Industries, and remind everyone why they are a part of the city’s economic development strategy,” said economic council President Jessica Erickson. “These awards show that companies within these industries are already making significant contributions to our economy through job creation and capital investment.” The nominees for the 2015 Cornerstone Awards in each category were: • Advanced technology: SK hynix Memory Solutions, Sparkfun Electronics and UASUSA • Bioscience: NSpire Health, RMC Pharmaceuticals and Syngenta Seeds Professional Services and IT: BW Systems, Computer Terrain Mapping and Pigler Automation • Creative Arts and Culinary: Boulder Organic Foods, Sagescript Institute and Two Moms in the Raw • Small Business: Crackpots, District 303 “Art of Hair,” Fabulous Finds and Rosalee’s Pizzeria. This year’s Cornerstone Awards winners were: • SK hynix Memory Solutions, a leading provider of NAND flash solutions that opened a new engineering office in Longmont in 2014, where it employs 12 people, including leading engineering experts of storage and firmware design. • RMC Pharmaceutical Solutions, a provider of expert services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, bioenergy and food industries. It employs 14 scientists and engineers in a combined officelaboratory in Longmont. • BW Systems, a low-voltage systems integrator specializing in design, installation and services of access control, CCTV Video recording, and commercial intrusion instruments. BW’s northern office in Longmont employs 12 people, providing corporate security systems support for customers in metro Denver and the Northern Front Range, as well as Wyoming and Nebraska. • Boulder Organic Foods crafts organic food using garden-fresh ingredients, many of which are sourced locally. The firm employs 48 people in its Longmont area facility in Niwot. • Crackpots, a destination location and anchor for downtown Longmont for the past 14 years, offers ceramic painting, glass fusing and mosaics, classes and summer camps intended to give everyone the opportunity to be an artist for a day. Crackpots has made significant investments over the years in improving its downtown Longmont storefront and employs 14 people.
