Jonathan R. Lovekin, P.G., joined Kumar & Associates Inc.’s Colorado Springs office as a senior geologist. Lovekin specializes in the mitigation of geological hazards for land development and engineered structures. In conjunction with land development, Lovekin has performed investigations and designs for foundations, retaining structures, drain systems, pavements and small dams. His experience also includes designing and implementing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. Lovekin, who has more than 20 years’ experience within the engineering geology field, earned his Master of Engineering in geological engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 2007 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in geology from the University of Colorado in 1983. Mark Thornbrough, PE, CFM, a civil engineering associate with Martin/Martin Inc., earned his certified floodplain manager certification. Thornbrough earned the certification through the Association of the State of Floodplain Managers Inc. Thornbrough joined Martin/ Martin in 1998 and has managed and designed a variety of hydrologic/hydraulic studies, watershed master plans and major drainage improvement projects. In addition, Thornbrough has been project manager and/or project engineer for a variety of civil site and land development and water/wastewater projects. His project experience includes municipal drainage and flood control; facility wide storm water system rehabilitation; construction-related services for storm water channels and regional detention ponds; and preparation of numerous CLOMR/LOMR applications. As well, Thornbrough is well versed in the Federal Emergency Management Agency floodplain modification process. Scott Jenkins recently was promoted to associate at IA Interior Architects’ Denver office. Jenkins, who joined IA in 2010, has more than two decades of experience in architectural and interior design, project management and facility operations. Prior to IA, Jenkins was director of facility operations for StarTek in Denver. Previously, he worked with several Colorado design firms, including two years with IA as project director. He earned a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture from Kansas State University. Jerry Deall, LEED AP, was promoted to vice president of project management for E Cube Inc. Deall also is a principal shareholder with the Boulder based firm, focusing on optimization and commissioning of buildings across the country. Deall has more than 30 years of experience in the design, construction, operations and optimization of commercial and institutional buildings. His early career included positions as Master HVAC mechanic and service manager with Temperature Dynamics in Boulder, and facilities manager with three biomedical research firms in the Boulder area. Laura Swank joined Box Studios as senior project manager. At the design collaborative, Swank will lead teams that create a platform of design solutions. Swank joins the firm with more than 10 years’ experience in various industries including corporate, hospitality, medical and education. Prior to joining the company, Swank worked as a senior project manager with a national design firm. Rob Taylor recently was promoted to associate principal of Rider Levett Bucknall’s Denver office Taylor has been with the firm and RCP, its sister company, since 2004. Taylor has a broad range of skills, including the planning and management of health care, commercial and institutional construction projects, schedule development and a comprehensive understanding of project costs. Mark Huber, general manager, and Jason Coker, project manager/engineer, of Turner Construction recently were elected to board of directors positions with the Associated General Contractors and the U.S. Green Building Council, respectively. Huber joined Turner Construction in 1996 and spent 15 years in the Kansas City office before relocating to the Denver area in July. At Turner, Huber has held positions including assistant engineer and senior project manager and worked in the estimating department as well as served as project manager for the Overland Park Convention Center and Garmin World Headquarters Expansion projects. Huber started his career with Black & Veatch in Kansas City in 1993 in its power division. Huber is a LEED-accredited professional and is designated as a Design-Build Professional by the Design-Build Institute of America. Coker came to Turner Construction in 2007 following five years of U.S. Air Force construction management experience. After field experience on three Turner projects, Coker served as the cost engineer for the Denver business unit. He has since taken on roles of project manager and engineer on several different projects. Additionally, Coker serves as sustainability manager, overseeing Turner’s local sustainable construction pursuits, resources and LEED training program in Denver. Coker has been a member of USGBC Colorado since 2007 and served for three years as the co-chairman for the Metropolitan Branch Education Committee. Martin/Martin Inc.’s Brian Dummer earned his professional engineer’s license in Wyoming. Dummer is a senior project engineer with the company. The Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute elected its 2012 board of directors. The executive board includes Jim Serowski, 2012 board president; Gary Feiner, past president; Mark Stutz, president-elect; and Jay Retzko, secretary-treasurer. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado recently nominated Merrick’s Daniel Harrington, PE, LEED BD+C, for National ACEC Young Professional of the Year. Merrick also nominated Harrington for consideration of the ACEC Colorado New Faces of Engineering award based on his leadership with the firm. Harrington has been with Merrick for more than seven years, leading a variety of projects including work for the military, USDA, Center for Disease Control, federal, state and local government. As well, he’s been part of several ACEC-award winning projects. Harrington also manages Merrick’s college internship program, arranges the company’s annual snow day and helps organize the firm’s Bring Your Child to Work Day. He has served as a math and science tutor of the Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists and participates in the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Society of American Military Engineers summer construction camp. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder. Blake Calvert, PE, will lead Atwell LLC’s new Denver office. Calvert brings 17 years of experience managing entitlements and engineering design of large mixed use communities, multi- and single-family developments, commercial sites, parks and community centers to the national land development consulting firm. Calvert will manage the Denver operations, growing the Denver and Colorado land development market, local projects and expanding the firm’s existing client base. His responsibilities have ranged from project management, civil engineering, entitlements/agency approvals and master planning to community outreach and sustainability consulting. Prior to joining Atwell as operations leader of the Denver office, Calvert was group director of engineering for Nolte Associates. A registered professional engineer in Colorado, Calvert earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Texas Tech University and is involved in Urban Land Institute, the Downtown Denver Partnership and Castle Rock Economic Development Council.
