The Denver Bumper Works property, a fixture on the Interstate 25 corridor for decades, has a new owner. The 33,000-square-foot property at 830 Wyandot St. is identified with a sculpture of a rearing horse, crafted by artist Sean Guerreros from chrome bumpers, that is positioned on the roof of one of the two buildings. The Vanner family sold the buildings, which sit on three acres, for $2.4 million. Denver Bumper Works owner Gary Vanner is retiring and closing the business. The sculpture, which was not part of the sale, will be moved to property The Sherman Agency is redeveloping on Denver’s Santa Fe corridor. Montague LLC, which purchased the real estate, hasn’t disclosed its plans for the Denver Bumper Works property. Vanner began working at Denver Bumper Works in 1963. He purchased the company, which dates to 1955, in 1993. “They have been an icon out there forever,” said Brad Gilpin of Unique Properties LLC-TCN Worldwide, who represented the seller with Unique Properties’ Greg Knott. The buildings, which were constructed in 1959 and 1972, weren’t openly marketed for sale. “Their concern was marketing the property for sale would negatively impact their business,” said Gilpin, adding the Vanners trusted Unique Properties to confidentially seek out a buyer. The quiet nature of the offering created “a difficult challenge, for sure,” he said. Denver Bumper Works negotiated a 90-day leaseback to remain in the building while it winds down the business. John Wickens of Brokers Guild represented the buyer in the transaction.
