Gulf Pine Catholic • July 11, 2025 23 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BY KIMBERLY RASMUSSEN On Sunday, April 6, the Very Reverend Father Godfrey Andoh, rector at Nativity BVM Cathedral Parish, was the honored guest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Godfrey was invited by the Reverend Kennedy Soosai, parochial administrator at St. Mary’s to concelebrate the 9:30 a.m. Mass, followed by a special Lenten Mission discourse presented by Father Godfrey. Titled, “What is our response to God’s endless love?” Father Godfrey spoke to St. Mary’s parishioners as well as those visiting from neighboring parishes on how to embrace God’s love and mercy during the Lenten season. Father Godfrey began by reminding everyone that the God we serve is a loving God. Kind, nurturing and ever-present in our lives. The Holy Spirit has been breathed upon us and allows us to express our love in different ways to all of those we encounter each day. Father Godrey referenced the tale of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-37) and emphasized that forgiveness and mercy can often come from the most unexpected of sources. Still, forgiveness and mercy, while often difficult to bestow on others and even ourselves, are instrumental to truly understanding and accepting God’s love. Father Godrey pointed out that every saint has a past and every sinner has a future, but through the act of believing in God’s love deep in our hearts, we, too, can be saved. Our relationship with God starts with our faith and grows in prayer. It’s during prayer that extraordinary things can happen. In closing, Father Godfrey reminded us not to conform ourselves to this world (Rom 12:2). Rather, discern the will of God to what is “good and pleasing and perfect.” It’s through God’s will, that we can truly embrace His love and mercy.
