with the University of South Alabama for a
guided mushroom walk of the Arboretum grounds. Return to the Pavilion for an in-
formative overview of what others have found! Learn about fungi’s fascinating part
in ecology, taxonomy, and relationship to mankind. Members free,
non-member adults $5, children $2.

BUGFEST
Friday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bring the family out to the Arboretum for this two-day event focusing entirely on in-
sects. On Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., local schools and homeschool groups are in-
vited to explore the world of entomology through insect collecting activities,
identification methods, and more. Student admission $2; no charge for teachers and
chaperones until 6 p.m. Groups must call to schedule an arrival time. On Friday from
6 to 8 p.m., children will enjoy entomology-based activities on the Buggy Midway,
and night collecting will begin at dusk. Bring flashlights or a headlamp! The Midway
is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The New Orleans Audubon Institute’s Bug-
mobile presents in the afternoon. Friday evening and Saturday entry fee is $5 for
adults and $2 for children. Members attend free. Call the Arboretum office at (601)
